- Hi, I recently extended the content pipeline to support a file format I use for animations. I didn't really need any processing to be done on the data, I just wanted: 1) to be able to load my files with the ContentManager, 2) to let the base classes of the content pipeline handle byte swapping for me. Everything works fine on PC, I didn't get the chance to try it on an x360 yet, but I was surprise

- Hi All, I've written a quick app that draws a simple canvas using Direct3D. I'd like to run this code as a service at the end of the day and hence do not want to render the output to the screen. Instead I'd like to save it to file in (BMP or some other format). I'm no Direct3D guru, but it seems like I'd want to write the contents of the back buffer to disk. Does anyone have any experience doing t

I read the XNA FAQ, and it sounds to me like they've already deprecated Managed DirectX... does that mean that XNA has/will entirely replace DirectX If I want to write a program using DirectX in .NET, would this then mean that my program will need to

- Are there any tools out there to enable the graphical building of a shader network, such as in Autodesk Maya's Hypershade tool or Softimage XSI's RenderTree tool, which can enable you to use a GUI to set up an object's basic material properties and then automatically generate the appropriate HLSL shader fragments needed to reproduce the material effect in your game without having to manually write

- Hey guys.
I've the last couple of hours tried to implement an infinite projection matrix without succes. So I took a step back to see if I could even make some sense of the "normal" perspective projection matrix used by XNA. Normally I used the CreatePerspectiveFieldOfView() method to create the matrix. Here is what I've tried so far. What is XNA left-handed or right This code works but the vie

- Hello
I have a problem with deployment of a xbox 360 game. Okay the problem seems to be the network connection, i get the message that the host (my xbox 360) cannot be reached.
I tried a PING to the IP Address of my XBox 360 and it fails. So i checked the Subnet, the IP Address, everything looks fine. And than i figured out something really strange: I started "PING -t 192.168.0.2"

Because my program will be shared between many computers, I want the program to find the resolution of the computer on wich it is running.
By example, on my computer at home, the program will return the value 1024 and the value 768 in order to make 1024 X 768. On my laptop, I will get 1920 and 1200. I want to get the width and the height separat

- Hi, I have two questions regarding geometry shaders:
1) Can a geometry shader write to a Stream Out while passing the data down the pipeline at the same time I've read such indications, but I can't seem to find it documented anywhere. I.e. a dynamic particle system where particles are added to a point stream out AND rendered in one pass.
2) Can a geometry shader have multiple output streams

The problem is that when I make a terrain larger than 20X20 (so 800 triangles and 400 subsets) my fps falls to about 15-20. Removing textures doesn't help. Here is the simple bit of code for terrain drawing: public void Draw() { for (int i = 0; i < TerrainMesh.Get

I was just wondering, what is the easiest method of generating tangents for use in xna I recall there being a function in the mdx(or maybe dx C++) that could generate tangent based on a set of arbtiary vertex data. Does Xna have this
If I have to manually create them, are there any C# samples for doing this Even if it's not for xna, I can always port.

- I'm a bit puzzled by this - why is the game class not a singleton, i.e. there is and can be only ever one instance of it.
I can't quite see any sensible reason to have more than one of them, but as it doesn't seem to be a singleton, I have to hold a reference to it anywhere I want to access game services from. Otherwise I could have just written Game.Instance.Services when I wanted access

- I'm sure this is a fairly simple answer but it's been bugging me for a while. Most of the XNA stuff I do at 1024x768 but recently I decided to change this to widescreen, ie 1280x720. The thing is, instead of actually creating a widescreen play area it seems to just stretch the game from 4:3 to 16:9 which is really irritating. Here is a basic example of what I mean... This is 4:3: http://www.dunman

I know that using classes correctly will help keep my code organized but I am confused about the performance.
I have searched the web and I haven't got the exact answer.. not even close.
Some people say, object construction and destruction (among others) is a performance degrader in OO programming
