- If I give an illegal mode letter in a fopen call, my program will crash. For instance _wfopen("foo.txt", "arb"); I would expect it to fail gracefully, but it it seems to simply terminate the process. Is this a bug in fopen or a designed behaviour The reason I can get an illegal mode is because I'm using user input to construct the call, and I hoped I wouldn't have to add too m

- Ok, this IMO defies all logic and reasoning. I have the same identical C++ Project in two solutions. I know these are identical because I copied the entire project from one solution and pasted in another and that added that pasted project to the solution. In one solution, the C++ Project references a C# Project. In the other solution, the C++ Project references the compiled DLL of the same C# Pr

- I'm new to using the Windows API, and I can't figure out where I should declare all my variables. In a console application they would all go at the beginning of main(), but if I put them in WinMain() they will be out of scope in WndProc where all the action is. The tutorials I've read seem to solve this problem by simply declaring all variables at global scope...but momma always told me that globa

- Hello everyone,
I have noticed a lot of COM samples that the function AddRef and Release function of COM inteface is not synchronized to make it thread safe when dealing with adding/decreasing reference count.
Is it needed to synchronize AddRef and Release Or the COM runtime underlying implementation handles thread safe issue by itself (i.e. transparent to upper layer COM server developer)

Why is it that the line of code
"DWORD DWordValue = 0xF988FA1F; "
places the proper hex value into the DWordValue variable (4186503711, 0xF988FA1F), but this line of code
"DWordValue = strtol("0xF988FA1F", NULL, 16);"
places the unanticipated value (2147483647, 0x7FFFFFFF)

I could use some help
I would like to read binary, a single bit at a time, from a file! Anytype of file, the one I currently doing reading is a "test.jpg".
I've tried fscanf options, it didn't work out so good for me!
I tried the ifstream, but that read the values in as a char, and I tried converting it over, but it didn't seem to read in the binary to begin with!
