Old Foxpro Dood

I work for government and unfortunately we are a little behind on versions, but I do have a problem which my dbase, sco foxbase, microsoftfox brain can't handle. A project was created in Ver 7 with no compilation or execution errors prevelant. When proj is opened in Ver 8 and a particular form is opened the error displayed says "SYNTAX ERROR 10" .... my old feeble brain has tried debugger and any trick I can think of to get rid of this situation....any suggestions out their in brainland

This error usually indicates, that you have some form's property, say, caption, starting with = I think the solution is to put a space before = or do it in run-time in form's Init.

Try to identify if you have such problem with the form in question.

UPDATE. Personal info removed.

Really

I assumed, given the amount of time that you spend on the various forums that you were self-employed and that, like me the time that is spent on the forums in non-billable time for which you are not being paid.

How is it that you get all this time to spend researching and answering questions when you are employed by the Government

(As a taxpayer, and hence your paymaster, I am really interested)

thanks for the idea....however, it did not work...i put spaces around all the equal signs in any method on all objects. any other ideas..i'm using thisform.pageframe1...values quite a bit ... do you know of any problems with object syntax that may exist between versions. also, in defense of this gentleman being a civil servant, it doesn't take much time to minimize this forum on your desktop and respond to questions and actually could be quite a learning tool (that's all the opinions i have today)

Not you OldFoxProDood! You are asking a question to, presumably, SAVE time - and hence save us poor benighted taxpayers some money!

I was asking a person who to my personal knowledge answers questions here, the UT and Tek_tips (and maybe in other places that I don't know about) - how do they find the time while holding down a full-time job. (As I said, I am self employed and my time is my own. I don't bill for time I spend here, and actually, when I am working for clients I don't have the time to spend here anyway...)

Because I work fast and can do multiple things at once - answering in forums as well as do my regular work.

I think you misunderstood me. If you have a property set in the property sheet to start with = then you may have the problem you described. Of course, there could be other reasons for the problem. I'm just guessing the cause since I know this problem was encountered before by many developers.

What exactly the error message says

=================================================================================

To Andy: I answer in UT, here, tek-tips and foxclub.ru I was also trying to answer in foxite before the forum administration kicked me off. I never received a single penny for answering questions but I do it because it gives me some good feeling of being able to help fellow developers. Besides, I received so much help in the past that it is time to try to re-pay.

BTW, why we're making this question off-topic again I don't think that discussion about me helps the thread originator in any way. Do we have chatter section in this forum as well

In addition please read http://www.berezniker.com/display/VFP/Moving+Applications+to+VFP+9.0 and the links referenced there. It may help you down the road.

SWAG: Do you have any constructs that are not allowed but previous versions kinda looked the other way

For example:

a local definition without commas:

LOCAL MyVar1 MyVar2 MyVar3

instead of

LOCAL MyVar1, MyVar2, MyVar3

Naomi,

i understood your answer the first time and i don't have any properties set with an equal sign to initialize. the error says "SYNTAX ERROR 10" when u execute the form and that's it. i'm puzzled because the form works in both versions and there are no errors under ver 7. if you close the syntax error box in ver 8 the form works fine. there is no detail other than the syntax error message and f1 gives some benign bs. i'm going to regenerate the form under ver8 and see if i can step it into an error after writing some code in pieces. thanks

In other words, you have a problem compiling the form, not in design time, as I misunderstood you myself E.g. you can open this form OK in the designer but some method gives you an error in compile time, correct If yes, then Alex's answer is probably the one. But if this is the case, the compiler should tell you which method it is.

You are a very lucky person then and I am jealous. I find it difficult to concentrate fully on one thing at a time and really cannot do this multi-tasking - I wish I could!

(Incidentally I HAVE deleted all the inappropriate and off-topic posts - I wasn't around this afternoon and things clearly got out of hand).
