This form may share the main form DS (the child form DS should be left default), so you main form will see the changes this form made in that cursor and react accordingly. I have a BS, Physics from St. Joseph's College (Phila), MS, Physics from Brown Univ (Providence, RI), and a Ph D in Physiology & Biophysics from Univ of Vermont (Burlington, VT). I did a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroscience at the Univ of Pennsylvania. After my MS degree, I worked for a couple of years with IBM in semiconductor technology development in Vermont. I was an Assistant Professor at Beaver College in Glenside, PA for several years teaching Anatomy & Physiology, and Computer Science. While teaching, I was doing computer consulting on the side. I finally decided that computer consulting was more fun, and gave up teaching entirely. The general theme of my career has been the use of computers in science, engineering, and medicine. I've had an opportunity to work in a lot of different fields (the advantages of being a Physics major). In college I worked for a year in a work-study program at NASA's Goddard Spaceflight Center. That is where I first learned to program. We were using computers to simulate proposed launches to determine the best parameters for getting successful orbits. My master's thesis was a magnetic resonance study of the structure of glass. Part of that involved using computers to simulate the measured spectra. At IBM, I was involved in characterizing semiconductor processing techniques that were coming out of the development labs. Part of that involved computer simulations of the experimental measurements. At the Univ of Vermont, I did research that involved electrical recordings from single brain cells. I used a DEC PDP-8 computer to completely control the experiments, and also computer simulation to model the results. My consulting work as been in the area of medical applications, mostly in the field of Biomechanics and Podiatry. I am also part-inventor of a system for measuring human gait: GaitMat II. - problem setting up a ODBC data connection more questions. Did you configure sql2005 for remote connections It's disabled by default. Use SQLserver configuration and surface area editors to allow remote connections first and also be sure to adjust firewall for SQL2005 ports (default 1433 but SQL2005 uses dynamic ports, read details about on how to setup for remote connections in BOL). - fast / draft mode printing in vfp Telling someone to embed printing control in a report is VERY BAD ADVICE. Removing those same embedded controls is one of the most frequently asked questions. This setting is best made in the Windows Control panel for the installed printer (assuming the printer driver supports draft printing), where it will not affect reports that sometimes need to be sent to other printers. In the textbox interactive change try: lcKey = alltrim(this.value) ** Assuming the table is ordered by Customer and it is the current alias SET KEY TO m.lcKey && This should filter all records matching the entered value ************************************************************************************************************************ If this would not exactly work as you want, you may construct lcKeyMin, lcKeyMax and use the second version of SET KEY command. - OLEDragDrop errors Thanks Naomi and DNI. I have fixed the problem and it turns out that it was not anything to do with the OLEDragDrop method - it was simply that I was referring to a property which did not exist. However, I would not have discovered this if I hadn't been trying to re-work the code so that I could provide a comprehensible example as requested by Naomi. I'm still baffled as to why the error crashes VFP rather than simply producing a 'property does not exist' error, but it is all working fine now in any case. Tag: arabic

- ADO and NULL in VFP tables When I use the AddNew() method of a recordset the new record has all the fields set to .NULL. Unfortunately the tables I am accessing do not allow NULL values in the fields. Can you tell me please is there a simple way to change this behaviour of the recordset so that the fields are set to empty values instead such as "", 0, {} etc Otherwise I am guessing that I would have to write a routine of my own that changes any null values that haven't been set by the client. At the moment when I call the Update() method of the recordsetit throws a pretty general exception saying something went wrong. I am guessing that it is because of the NULLs. As a bit of background I am trying to use ADO to access VFP native tables so that I can easily use the recordsets as business entities that can be passed between my classes without having to specify dozens of parameters in the method calls. - GENDBC and Filters Hi Andy, In my Primary Keys (PK) I'm used to add a filter clause "NOT DELETED()". When I run GENDBC on my Database that has some filters on some PKs, I get the warning: "Filters no PRIMARY keys are not supported at this time. A comment will be added to your output file specifying the filters" I see that the latest GENDBC file was created in 1997, and it generates a commented line: ****** These filters need to be added manually ****** * Table Name: TESTE1 * Primary Key: ID * Filter Expression: .NOT.DELETED() **************************************************** I'd like to know if someone has modified the GENDBC program in order to generate the tables with the correct filter expressions. - Export to Excel with multi-language Hi, guys I'm fixing some multi-language function for our application software, we use FoxPro 9.0 and SQL server. For now, I can successfuly extract data from SQL, display it in FoxPro Form (using OLE object); or import data from Excel, then save it into SQL server (thanks to Rick Strahl , http://www.west-wind.com/presentations/foxunicode/foxunicode.asp ). But then, I stuck. When I try to extract data from SQL, then export them to Excel, I always get a lot of strange mark instead of my Chinese, Japanese or Arabic data shown in SQL server. I've try to STRCONV() data to Unicode or UTF-8, it just not work. - Object assisted report in dot matrix printers I encountered a problem using object assisted reporting. Preview works fine but when I tried printing it in dot matrix printers like Epson FX-890 or Epson LQ-2170, it printed smaller fonts and the whole letter size paper was only printed 3/4 of its size, what could be the problem To further determine the cause of the problem, I tried printing it using report behavior 80 and it came out fine, thus report behavior 90 is to be attributed as the problem for these printers. - VFP7 crashes with "Fatal error: Exception code=C0000005" during data import from Excel I always start with deleting the Fox resource files when I occasionally get a C5 error. (foxuser.*) If that doesn't solve it, read on. Obviously, you feel you must use a CURSOR. Just for testing purposes to rule in or out the use of a table, try doing the same task, except create a temporary free table instead of the cursor and see whether that makes a difference. Besides setting the language (Windows version) to Arabic in Control Panel, in VFP forms use Alignment=1 and RightToLeft=.t. for Text/Edit boxes. In Reports use the RightToleft from the format menu and select the font as Arabic script.
This supposes you have the latest version of VFP and Windows XP, as you do not specify version used. Previous versions of VFP may have had some problems with Right-to-Left. I understand the VFP Team worked on this issue for VFP 9.0.

Please do not hijack someone elses thread with a different question. His problem is Arabic adnd Right-to-Left issues.
If you want to ask about Russian fonts (like "ER Bukinist 1251") and how to work with Russian in VFP you should start a new thread.
Make sure you have Windows settings and fonts set to Russian. In VFP, add CODEPAGE=1251 to config.fpw
