    - Newbee - Insert previous cross-ref from the dialog box I would like to have a template that users can work on, and then later go through and select a paragraph or a word to be designated as a cross-reference. I would then like to create a macro that would pop open the cross-reference dialog box (type set to "numbered items", and type set to "paragraph text" as defaults), and have the items list already highlighted so the user pretty much launches the macro, scrolls to the cross reference item they want to insert and hit enter to insert and close the box. I don't want them to have to select the ReferenceType, ReferenceKind, etc. I know that this has got to be something simple and I'm overlooking it. I tried to record a macro to do it, I was having to put things like vbTab & "%m" to select stuff because I didn't know how to stop the macro have the user interact with the dialog box. Now thinking about it, I'd really like to just have a Dialog box that only displays the cross-references I've created show up without using the standard Microsoft box Is that possible Please, steer me in the right direction if I am off here. The application here is for a user to type a "Heading" and give it a cross-reference (can I set a style that automatically assigns a cross reference to the name (e.g. if the user applies the "heading" style to the text ). Then the user, later in the document presses the "macro button", a dialog box of previous references pops up, the scroll to the one they want, hit enter and it inserts it. Sorry, I don't know the proper language to use here; and maybe that is part of my problem. I just got "knighted" to this. I appreciate any input, even if it is "go read..." Thanks.     - Easy msgbox Query Here's what I'm looking to do in Excel: User inputs data in cell C7 A function in cell C11 calculates A function in cell C12 calculates I want to ensure that both C11 and C12 are positive based on C7 input If they are not, I want a msgbox to appear saying, "Enter a Larger Value." I used the Change event over the Calculate event because it's my understanding that the Calculate event will not work with functions.     - Cannot read Office 2007 DVD Has anyone experienced the problem of not being able to read the Office 2007 Enterprise installation DVD in a DVD R/RW drive. So far, three drives I've tested cannot read the disc. No error message. Nothing. The drive spins a little, but never sees it. I cannot access the drive through Explorer either. I've even updated the firmware. My drive's are all Lite-On drives, so I don't know if that has any effect. I've gotten around it on one machine by installing a second DVD ROM drive, which can read the disk just fine.     - Using DCount function in a Report group footer Hi, I'm having trouble getting a DCount function to work on an MSAccess 2003 report. I'm using a text box in a group footer - I want it to show a count of the number of distinct records in the group. Here's what I'm using - which produces the result of '#Error' with no further help.: =DCount("Task ID","Tasks","TaskID IN (SELECT DISTINCT TaskID FROM R_TaskID)") I'm aware of the access definition of expr, domain and criteria syntax for this function, however, I'm not sure what to use for the 'domain' in this scenario. Expr - I gather this should be the field I want to count - 'Task ID' - the field is part of the report detail. Domain - here's where I'm sure I've gone wrong. I think this should be the group recordset but I don't know how to reference them The report uses a query containing tables and queries - but it doesn't have a name.     - Windows Error Reporting - handling unanticipated errors For Vista certification, is any handling of unanticipated errors prohibited (other than throwing them) Let's say an application has to process a large number of files. If an unanticipated error occurs when processing one of those files, I wouldn't want that to prevent the application from processing the rest of them.     - Is there a better way to debug. I learnt all of my programming in Java and used to use the command prompt/debug window extensively to print information out to. I could use this to check flow and determine when things were executed, the order and more information about the workings of the code. In VB I have been using Msgbox along with the Str() command. This is rather intrusive to the operation of the system. It also makes it hard to determine the order. I thought of dumping stuff to a text file but thought that is rather complex and not as useful as a command prompt. Any suggestions would be great.     - VB code in Access forms Hi, i'm a beginner in the VB code world but enjoy making things happen in the rare instances that they do! I'd really like some VB code / help for the following: I 'm designing a database with user input forms and am stuck on how to use VB code to make it do the things i want it to... I want code to do the following: For each new record i only want the parent form to be accessible for data entry, after all its fields are in then the subforms which appear on the same form can then be made accessible for data entry. Problem is i don't know how to refer to the NewRecord property via VB and then turn on / off the data entry properties of the subforms. I would also like to know how to use the value of the current record (automatically incremented with every new record), ideally i'd like to sync this in with a reference number on the actual parent form.     - ReportFault() vs. WerReportCreate/WerReportSubmit() on Vista Hi all, I'm experimenting with the available APIs for error reporting. On XP systems, I'm using ReportFault(), which seems to work as expected- it displays the WER dialogs, sends data to the Winqual site (including minidump data), launches a debugger when asked for by the user etc. Is this the right place to ask questions about those APIs If not, please ignore the following. (But if you know where I should ask instead, please drop me a note, thanks!) On Vista, ReportFault()'s behavior changed, unfortunately. With the default error reporting settings (automatic reporting without asking the user), it sends the crash report to the Winqual site - and then terminates the application. However, in my particular case, I need to re-gain control after WER reporting in my application in order to perform additional logging and clean-up, and to provide users with an option to continue working for a limited time (for example, to try and save their current data). Since ReportFault() didn't do what I wanted, I tried the WerReportCreate/WerReportSubmit combo instead. Those APIs do indeed return and don't terminate the application - but they also don't seem to report all the crash details correctly. For example, I've never seen any indication that one of the crash reports produced by the WerReport* APIs contained minidump information (judging from the problem report history in wercon.exe). My first guess is that I'm simply not using the WerReport* APIs correctly - but after trying lots of different options and variations, I'm pretty much at a loss. Hence my questions: - Where can I find tested sample code which uses WerReportCreate/WerReportSubmit() - Is there a way to use ReportFault() under Vista without terminating the application Thanks!     - Access Data Project, form bound to Sproc, need to update, etc I have an Access Data Project. SQL Server backend, access forms. I have a form bound to a stored procedure. The storede procedure is based on two tables. The form needs to update and delete records in one of the tables. I set the Unique Table property to the table I need updated. When I try to update a record I get the error'This recordset is not updateable" It worked fine when the record source was he table. The second table can remain unchanged and it's field should be read only Does anyone know how to hook a form up to a sproc I have tried several solutions, but can't find the one that works.     - Conditional Formatting Problem/Bug? This is my first time in a forum. I have mostly found all the answers I could but I can't seem to find the answer for this: I don't know if this is a bug in excel or if I am doing something wrong. I start a new Excel application from another workbook and apply a conditional format that uses an array formula for its condition (I have read that conditional formatting always formulates in array). The conditional format doesn't apply. I need to select the cells with the conditional format, goto to the Conditional Formatting toolbar and reapply it manually. That is, I actually have to select the cells then goto Format->Conditional Format-> I see the formula applied and click OK and the conditional format works. Why doesn't the format apply from code Am I doing something wrong Here is my code. Thanks for your help.     - Problem with events I have created a customised control in a class module, which works in a similar way to a combo box. It consists of a label, on which I have a button. When the button is clicked, a frame control appears below in a similar fashion to a combo drop down pane, on which I have various check boxes which a user can check or uncheck as required. The button click event basically sets the visible property of the frame to true or false accordingly. My problem is, if the form on which my custom control resides has its ShowModal property set to false, the event handler for the button does not fire! I have checked this by placing a msgbox inside the event handler. When the form is set to modal, sure enough it fires and the msgbox appears. Can anyone offer any insight into why this happens and how I can correct it. Additional info that may assist anyone in diagnosing my probem: I have created a class module to handle this custom control, within which I have declared various MSForms control variables, the command button controls being declared WithEvents. I have a ParentForm property, which is set to a UserForm which already exists in the designer, once my class had been instantiated in a regular code module. Within the class, the controls are then set by adding them to the Controls collection of the ParentForm property (e.g. Set MyFrameVariable = ParentForm.Controls.Add("Forms.Frame.1"). I have set all my controls on the form in this way. Events are then handled within the class, by virtue of declaring them WithEvents.     - CRM 3.0 Error: Subreport could not be shown I have a user that is getting the error "Error: Subreport could not be shown" when doing a report for a quote. She can do a report for an order but just not for the quote. I tried logging her in with different computer and get the same result so I think it is at the server level.     - sending emails from MS Word with variable subject line Hi, I've searched these forums but have not been able to find exactly what I need. I know how to send emails with VBA in Word, but the only problem I have is that as far as i'm aware the subject line is always fixed in the code ( .Subject = "New subject" ) What i'm trying to do, is send reports i have reviewed to an email address by clicking a button in the toolbar.     - ThreadHijacker and WER report Hi, In my application I introduced AV thru code and getting a proper report. But, when I introduce AV using ThreadHijacker, GetModuleHandleExW() is unable to find the module handle. Report looks like as shown below. Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Appln.exe Application Version: 4.5.0.0 Application Timestamp: 46b0270c Fault Module Name: unknown Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 0 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 284D0005 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.4 Locale ID: 1033 As you can see Fault module name is unknown. Following function call has to return me proper module handle; but unable to do that. GetModuleHandleExW(GET_MODULE_HANDLE_EX_FLAG_FROM_ADDRESS | GET_MODULE_HANDLE_EX_FLAG_UNCHANGED_REFCOUNT, (LPCWSTR)exceptionAddress, &hModule)) hModule returned is null and error code returned is 126, which means unable to find the module. Same API call returns me proper fault module handle, if AV introduced thru change in code. Did anyone of you face similar scenario If so how did you overcome this Please, suggest. I have a backend excel file in LAN server, which acts as main database...

and n numbers of fronend excel file with n numbers of users......

I have written a code where data will be submitted from frontend to backend in a click of a button....

I want to check if the backend excel file is open somewhere/anywhere before executing the code further....
