Toblerone

Hi all, I have an app in which I need to create forms and controls on the fly (A form that designs itself from table data). That part i have solved and it works perfectly. The problem i'm faced with is not being able to create forms once the db is compiled and converted to .mde

I have been reading about workspaces. My idea is to create a workspace and generate the forms in that.

None of the forms I create need to be saved. They are for display puropses only so I thought a workspace would be perfect. The problem I'm having is creating forms and accessing their properties once i've opened the new workspace.

I can't find much documentation on workspaces so I'm not sure if what i'm trying to do is possible.

Please Help

I do not have enough expertise to use workspaces in the manner you wish to, but I wanted to suggest the solution we use: Have a form with a number of generic-named controls on it. Then you dynamically set the control source and position properties of the various controls in the On_Open event. Would this also work for your purposes

The code produces a GANTT chart so the number of controls needed and types of control will vary. Neither the form nor the controls are bound to a data source.

I did consider your approach when designing the app however it just seemed like a rather messy approach, having to hide controls not in use etc..

Ok let me rephrase the question slightly. Is it possible to create forms in a workspace other than worspace(0) the default

I don't know how this can be done. In Access 2003 the forms collection is part of the application property, not the workspaces property. Perhaps in Access 2007 it is different.

I'm currently trying to create a Gantt chart for a report in a MRPish database and having some problems to do so.

Could you please Help me

Hi LCarato. I'd love to help however, if you build yours the same way i've built mine and then compile to a .mde you will have the same issues as myself. How about i help you build it and we both work on the workspaces problem

Toblerone, that would be great! But I must warn you; mi knowledge in Access is kind of limited, so I wonder how may I be helpful for your project. I also think my problem is not as big as yours, as my Gantt chart will only be used to show job assignment to 5 workstations in a factory. ThatĄŻs what makes me thing I shouldnĄŻt need more than few controls.

I found very useful JLS123ĄŻs approach, not hiding unused controls, but locking them.

My form is bound to a source table, and targets a Gantt chart (still working on it) and a query. Bound to the table, simply because operations are ¨Cor at least should be- executed in standard times.

My main problem is generating the chart, I think it should be a report, but I canĄŻt tellĄ
