Hi, i'm trying to add a new customized tab in Communicator 2005 to show an
html page, i have a document titled "Planning and Deployment" which somehow
explains how to do this... I tried to add a new entry on the registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator called "TabURL" and also under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator with the same name which points to a local xml file that describes the tags for the new tab i want to add... i have restarted communicator, even my pc, but it doesn't seem to work... Communicator doesn't take care about this configuration, so my tab
is not displayed.

Anyone have more detalis on this

Here is a copy of the xml file i'm using.

Code Snippet
< xml version="1.0" >
<tabdata>
<tab>
<image>C:\pngformat\EnvelopeHS.png</image>
<name>PhoneBook</name>
<tooltip>Ir al Phone Book</tooltip>
<contenturl>http://phonebook</contenturl>
<tabid>1</tabid>
<userid>false</userid>
<contactid>false</contactid>
<method>get</method>
</tab>
</tabdata>

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Gabriel,

I was able to add a new tab in the Communicator 2005. Please see the XML file which I used, below.

Additionally, the TabURL can have the value like http://localhost/Tabs.xml. So, try putting these files etc. in the IIS.

< xml version="1.0" >
<tabdata>
<tab>
<image>http://localhost/Nortel/images/CallLogs.png</image>
<name>Call History</name>
<tooltip>Click for Call History</tooltip>

<contenturl>http://localhost/Nortel/CallRecords.aspx</contenturl>
<tabid>1</tabid>
<userid>true</userid>
<contactid>true</contactid>
<method>get</method>
</tab>
</tabdata>

Thanks,

Hi Rishabh, i put those files on a virtual directory in iis and it works... someone gave me that answer previously, thanks for your help too.. now i have another question, it works great on a local server within the same domain, but when i try to move to a public web site so that it can be accesed from outside the corporate network, it doesn't load the xml file, even if i type the address on my browser and it displays it.. is there a way to do that or it only works locally

Thak you very much

Hi Gabriel,

Below is an extract from the Planning and Deployment Guide of Microsoft Office Communicator 2005. I think it answers your question.

Note

A dotted, fully qualified domain name in the URL, such as http://www.contoso.com/tab.xml, will be treated as an Internet site and be rejected. Instead, try using a local Intranet address, such as http://contoso/tab.xml.

Thanks...

Rishabh

Ok thanks.. yes I checked that document and that's true, unless the internet site is configured as a trusted site on IE the tab won't be displayed.

Thank you again for your help.

I only can see these tabs, if I connect directly to the server and not go via an Edge-Server. With an Edge in between I caní»t see any tab.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem

HI Ken,

Just check from the IE whether you are able to open the tabs.xml file which is on the Server. If it opens up normally then please make sure you have added the URL in the trusted sites list of the IE.

Thereafter launch your OC and tabs should be displayed to you.

I can reach the tabs.xml file on the server and I also checked, whether the site is in the trusted sites.

So everything is fine, but I doní»t so the tabs.

Is there something to configure on the Edge server
