I have just installed Live Communications Server 2005 Standard in my test enviroment. I have a seperate server as a Domain Controller (all servers are Virtual Servers on one physical machine).

When I followed all the steps during installation, no errors show up. Also, the HTML log files only display green 'success' items. However, when I open the User Properties window on my DC, there is no Live Communications Server tab. It should show up there, but it isn't. Also, when I open the Live Communications Server Management Console, I only see an empty screen and no 'tree-view' of possibilities. When I manually add the snap in after running mmc, it works and I can see the Forest, Domain, etc.

Nothing, except the Management Console, displays anything strange or errors, so I have no clues as to why the tab is not visible. Without it, it won't be possible for me to give users access to LCS. When I try to connect anyway, get an error that the sign-in name does not exist or password is incorrect. I have to fill in the IP address of the LCS manually, since automatic configuration can't find a server.

Thanks in advance for help.

Hi,

You might review the support articles on http://www.support.microsoft.com/LiveCommSrv2005 to see if your issue has been addressed. If not, please post the error details from when you try to connect anyway and I'll ask our support team.

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

Michael Pang

Just had this problem myself. Find myself in much the same situation as you, installing into a "test" environment of virtual servers.

To see the tab in AD Users and Computers, install the LCS Administrative tools on your DC. (Or on whichever machine you use to manage users)

Syed Hasnain Ali

Hi,

I am currently facing exactly the same problem. I have installed Live communications server 2005 SP1 on a 64 bit machine which is also Schema Master, having only 30 users.

I tried installing the LCS Administrative tools and got notification that LCS tools are already installed on the System. I have also installed SDK and LCS Resource Kit but in vain. No error in Event viewer. Everything installed properly without any error.

I am still facing the same blank page, the right hand side, and no left side having tree etc.

Any idea what to do now Any help would be highly appreciated,

Thanks,

Hasnain.

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

Mohammad najdawi

when the live communications server installed on the domain controller DC server there no problems will occurred ¡°you will find the LCS tab on the user properties¡±, but if you not installed the LCS on the DC you have to install the administrative tools* of the LCS on the DC.

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

Syed Hasnain Ali

In my case, I have already installed LCS on a Domain controller but not only no tabs has been added in 'user' section but also there's nothing appearing on the LCS mmc. I even tried installing the LCS Administrative tools on the same AD machine but got the message, 'Administrative tools already installed'.

There's no error or any installation procedure, including the schema expension till the activation of LCS. But in the end, there's nothing on the LCS console.

Moreover, I just reinstalled LCS on another DC (Replica) and before doing this, I uninstalled LCS from the Schema Master, but getting exactly the same problem. This replic machine is a 32 bit machine, and Schema Master is a 64 bit one.

Is there anyone who can tell me the reason

Hi Hasnain,

I'm not sure if you've gone through these steps yet or not, but give them a try and let us know what the outcome is. If these steps don't get you what you need, then please email me a budsup@microsoft.com with a contact number and I'll try to set up a direct conference between you and the engineer.

Also, understanding that the customer has LCS 2005 installed on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 (x64 bit) Service Pack 1, could you please ask him to open the LCS console using the following steps ¨C

1. Click on start ¨C Run.

2. Type mmc and click OK.

3. On the Console1 windows open, click on file and select Add/Remove Snap-in¡

4. On the Add/Remove Snap-in dialogue box, click Add¡

5. Select ¡°Live Communication Server 2005¡± on the Add Standalone Snap-in dialogue box and click Add.

6. Select ¡°Active Directory Users and Computers¡± on the Add Standalone Snap-in dialogue box and click Add.

7. Click Close on the Add Standalone Snap-in dialogue box.

8. Click OK on the Add/Remove Snap-in dialogue box.

9. Now expand the Microsoft Office Live Communication Server 2005 on Console1 to check if it shows the configurations under it.

10. If you can see the configurations now, then expand ¡°Active Directory Users and Computers¡± on console1.

11. Expand your domain and then select ¡°Users¡±.

Go to the properties of any user and check if you can see the Live Communications Tab on there.

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

John McGregor

Hi,

I had the same problem. I guess you have Windows 2000 DCs. You need to install the Windows 2003 admin tools (You can do this on any XP or 20003 server) You will only be able to view the Live Comms tab via the 2003 Admin tools. You can download them here:

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate that.

I have already using Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 (x64 bit) Service Pack 1 with complete installation :(

Thanks,

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

Michael Wolff

This is happening because windows server R2 uses MMC 3.0.

Non R2 boxes dont have this issue because its runs MMC 2.0

The fix is install the Admin tools on an XP machine on you domain environment and Administer LCS from there.

Adrian

Re: Live Communications Server tab does not show up

DLGrubb

John, if you get this, we had the same issues as in this thread. I have worked through most, but we still do not see the Live com tab in AD so we can't activate users. I have installed the ad admin tools on an XP workstation. Also, on the GC, the tab does not show up. I am at a loss grabbing at straws...Anyone please respond.
