Which is better to use and/or faster SQL Server 2005 Express or MS Access 2003

I am using Visual Basic.NET 2005 Standard Edition and dealing with 5,000 to 10,000+ individual records.

What if my target PC doesn't have MS Access 2003

Hello WalangAlam...from your username, I can tell we're from the same country - Philippines.

Back to your question. I would go for SQL Server 2005 SE, and here's why:

You say you're dealing with thousands of individual records...Access is designed to handle small data, while SQL can hold much larger data; SQL is, in my honest opinion, better when it comes to quantity of data than Access.

Here's another reason:

MS Access is less secure that SQL, because you can edit and modify data with it with its GUI. SQL, on the other hand, is more secure because of the lack of GUI (I'm using Express Edition of SQL Server 2005 for that previous statement of mine.)

The last reason:

Speed. Say you have 1000 records, and you store them to Access and SQL. Ok, Access can do what SQL can, but what SQL has that Access doesn't have in this case is speed.

I hope I answered your question. :)
