John M. Andre

I just started getting this strange message when I load my project. The message is:

"There is an error with the application. Please contact technical support."

I load VS 2005 Team Edition, click on my project from the list, and I get this message. Any idea what it could mean There seems to be no other information associated with it and the error does not come up for other project, just this one.

The app is a WinForms VB app with quite a few forms, classes, user controls, etc. The project is not huge but likely has 60 - 70 classes/forms/controls in it.

Any help would be appreciated.

John

Hi John,

This appears to be an issue with loading the project. Moving to a more appropriate forum where hopefully someone can help.

Also, if one specific user control designer (not the designer code window, but the graphic designer) is open when I open the project, then I get the error. If that user control is not open, I don't get the error. Now, that is the most complex user control in the project so that might have something to do with it but still, I see nothing that would help me fix this problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I would try emailing Bruno Yu - MSFT with details of your problem.>>>>

v-bruyu@online.microsoft.com

He may answer it Himself or pass it on to the appropriate

Tech Support Team for that area of Visual Studio.

John M. Andre,

1. Please stop posting duplicate thread in MSDN forums. I have merged your previous one to Visual Basic IDE forum. Duplicate threads will be merged or deleted by the moderators.

2. Since the error does not come up with other projects but only this one, please provide more information on the project that cause the error. It seems that the error is related to the specific user control as you mentioned in your post. Please try to create a new project of the same type and see whether there is any problem.

3. If there is any third-party application included in your project, please clarify your third-party information. You can also try to disable the Add-Ins, then try to load the project again.

4. Please provide the complete error message including the dialog box title you get on the problem.

5. Actually the problems are only replied and supported by posting in MSDN forums but not by writing emails. There is no need to write to any of the community members in MSDN forums to get the answer.

Thanks again for your question and waiting for the further reply.

Sorry, it wasn't clear at all that this posting had been moved.

As you can see, someone requested that I email you. I don't make many posts here, as you can see, so perhaps you should direct this point to Spidermans_DarkSide.

I will put together something that shows the error, if possible. The title of the error dialog was:
Microsoft(r) Visual Studio(r) 2005

The icon is a red circle with a white "x" and the text is "There is an error with the application. Please contact technical support." There is an OK button and no other buttons.

I do appreciate any help you can provide.

Regards,
John

I now see the problem. I thought it was an internal VS error but actually it was calling code I didn't think would execute in design mode.
