A couple questions:

1. is there an intrinsic base64 encode/decode function for strings I saw some methods in cryptography class, but they only take bye arrays as arguments and not strings I want to do something like this very simple:

Dim this As String = "hello world"

this = Base64encodeIntrinsicFunc(this)

2. the line break character crlF is it techinically \r\n can you check for other types of line breaks in strings and if so how

For example some line breaks in different systems:

\r\n windows

\n linux

\r mac

3. How do you get rid of the extra blank space to the left of the datagridview
see this picture for more explanation:

-thank you

Hi! Thanks for replying!

I visted both links, and yes I know how to search. Smile

However, I created this thread for a reason because I KNEW and NOTICED many user created functions for base 64 encryption of strings, but I wanted to know if there is an instrinsic solution for it within a namespace or class for VB.NET. I take it there IS NOT, as you linked me to ONLY user created functions for it.

Also, bump* on the other 2 questions about the datagrid and the identifying different system linebreaks within strings.

Thank you for your interest.

Hi,

Regarding point 3, I am not sure you can remove that space as it is above the column with the arrow that indicates which row you have selected, you can narrow it with your mouse though by dragging hte in-between line to the left at run-time to resize its width.

I just tried adding 1 column and it appears in the 2nd column position.>>>>

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

DataGridView1.Columns.Add("File", "FileName")

DataGridView1.Rows.Add(4)

End Sub

End Class

John

Blast123,

I'm not sure what you would expect to happen if you base64 encoded a string... A string is a string is a string, and there is *not* a single binary representation for a given string.

String + Encoding = (possibly multiple) binary representation(s).

You typically use a binary64 encoding to pipe binary goo through things that only understand ASCII text.

In addition, I'd suggest that you make a different post for each of your questions. It is difficult to follow up on many unrelated questions in the same thread...

Best regards,

Johan Stenberg
