I'm trying to move all the MySites from an evaluation server to a development farm configured to match what we will eventually use in production. I've moved the main site collection content without issue using the STSADM tool, but the same process doesn't work for migrating the mysite data.

The commands I used (for backup and restore respectively) are:
stsadm -o backup -url http://evalportal.company.com -filename \\server\share\portal.bak and then
stsadm -o restore -url http://portal.company.com -filename \\server\share\portal.bak

when I try to do the same thing with the mysite by using the following commands I get no errors, but no data in the mysite:

stsadm -o backup -url http://evalmysite.company.com -filename \\server\share\mysite.bak and then
stsadm -o restore -url http://mysite.company.com -filename \\server\share\mysite.bak

I also tried
stsadm -o backup -url http://evalmysite.company.com/personal -filename \\server\share\mysite.bak but got an error stating that it wasn't a top level site collection.

So my question is, what is the way to migrate all user's mysites in one operation (and if it's not possible, how do I do it one by one).

Thanks,
Paul

Ok, I've figured out how to move individual mysites (user by user). I'd like something that does all users together, if possible. Also, when I move a user's MySite, it doesn't move subsites of that mysite. Is there any way to do a backup with recursive backups of subsites (or include them all in one single backup)

Seems like there's gotta be an easier way to get MySites moved from an old server to a new one.

Could you please post how you moved the individual mysites over
