I am really stuck on this. I am creating a new site definition for use at my company. I need this to include a discussion board that will receive e-mail. I cannot find anyway to enable the list to receive e-mail during it creation. I have looked at doing this using the SPList object in the API. There is a SPList::CanReceiveEmail property but this is only a Get property. I try to simply set the EmailAlias property which has no affect. I have also tried to create the list through the onet.xml by setting the EmailAlias attribute but again this has no affect. I cannot find anyplace in the List schema.xml or the onet.xml to set that a list receives e-mail and I cannot find anyplace in the API to set this ability.

Does anyone know if this is possible. It seems to me it should be a simple straightforward thing to do. This is the one thing holding back my ability to generate a site using the standard we have developed

Have you checked the EnableAssignToEmail property

You must make sure your Type attribute of your list is set to the appropriate template type. In your case I guess this would be a "discussionboard" or a Type="108". There are only a few template types that are not email enabled by default. I don't know how you are defining your site definition but just make sure you set the Type attribute correctly for you list definition. The code for determining the "CanReceiveEmail" checks the the BaseTemplate property and if it is a document lbrary or Discussion Board etc it can receive email.
