From the TFS project web portal, users are allowed to open a document for edit. When multiple users try to open a Word document at the same time, if the second user to open the document chooses either "Notify when document is available" or "Open as read-only", once the first user finishes and closes and the second user closes the document, it disappears from SharePoint. This problem only occurs with Word (version 2003 SP2). We've tested the same features with Excel and they don't exhibit the problem.

Here's the exact sequence of events that manifests the problem:

User A: Open doc and edit

User B: Open doc (document is locked User B selects notify)

User A: Save and close doc

User B: Receive notification and convert to read-write

User B: Close document without saving

-- document disappears (the name of the document is not shown in the project portal)

Hi,

I'd assume this is not a TFS-specific problem. Rather, it's an issue with Microsoft Office or SharePoint. Therefore, I'd suggest you re-posted this question in an appropriate forum - chances are way better you'll get a detailed explanation of the problem there.

Try also searching Microsoft knowledge base for SharePoint-related known issues - may be there's a hotfix or a workaround addressing the described (mis)behavior.
