Right, been trying to install sharepoint for few days now, determined to get it working. Just finished the configuration wizard successfully, then IE poped up, entered Administrator password and username. But it failed, error starting with

"Server Application unavailable" please hit refresh...

(Running on VMware, Server 2003 Standard Edition, Sharepoint server 2007: Stand-alone installation)

Anyone got ideas

This could be related to following KB:

Click the link below to retrieve article 821157.EN-US.KB from Microsoft Online Support:

Make sure that you have the latest updates and service packs for Windows Server 2003 and .NET Framework 1.1 by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Try doing iisreset on the server and then navigating to the site on a new IE window.

If the message still appears, can you post the error on the Event Log

Thanks!

As Ivonne requested please look in your event log and see if there is a corresponding event to help us assist with troubleshooting this error.

Also ... after running the iisreset open up your IIS Manager and check your AppPools and verify that they are online as well as your sites. If a appPool appears down try recycling it. If it fails you are sure to trigger an event. Please respond back.

Sorry for the very later reply. At the end i did not fix the problem. I reinstalled windows server, updated, then installed WSS 3.0 as Its not complicated as Server 2007.

Wizard completed second time around, dont know why and how!!!!. I read somewhere u cant access WSS with default "Administrators" account, so I created a new user and added into "Administrators" group, loged in as new user and WSS worked!!!

I did other stuff in "Computer Management" and "proxy settings" in IE which could of fixed the problem.

Thanks for the help guys, been trying to install Sharepoint for 10 days on a virtual machine so i can test it; I'm working a school who wants to use Sharepoint for new year and I'm in charge, not a very good start i guess. I think I will be on here quite often Sad
