I was wonder if there is a way to dynamically pass parameters to a list that is contained within a web part on a page in order to filter it.

Yes, you can.

Connect a filter web part to your list web part.

If you drop both web parts on a page you can use the Connections menu to create the link and filter the list.

Our company has purchased the Standard version of MOSS, and has determined that the filter web parts are only available on the Enterprise version, so we have used a SharePoint list (of choices) as a provider web part, connecting to a library that is filtered based on the list item selected. Limitations we have encountered include:

1. When a selection is made in the provider list, the library is properly filtered; but if the user navigates away from the page and back again, the selection is still there, so the library remains filtered, rather than starting in its original unfiltered state (which we prefer). Is there a way to override the cache feature

2. If the view of the library on the page is a grouped (default: expanded) view, the filter works properly, showing the correct documents as well as the correct (lower) number of documents reflected in parentheses after each grouping title. However, if the groupings are collapsed by default, there is a problem - selecting a value in the provider list appears to properly filter the library (i.e., the number of documents in each grouping is less, indicating filtering has occurred), but expanding the group reveals that ALL documents are there, in spite of the fact that the number of documents in parentheses after each group title remains the lesser, filtered number. I demonstrated this for Nicola Young at a training recently and she confirmed that this is a bug. Any idea whether it is in the plans for fixing

3. By converting the provider list to a dataview webpart, we are able to modify the style of the list on the page. However, we have been unable to use the dropdown list style effectively. The web part looks fine - values appear properly in the dropdown - but selecting an item does not execute the filter on the library. It's as if there should be a "Go" button.
