If a worklow is developed in Visual Studio 2007 and deployed in sharepoint server, can a user then use office designer to make some changes to it. When a workflow is created by office designer, can we control it programmatically somehow in VS (Like in documentum you create a template workflow and deploy it on server, then from code you instantiate that workflow , add performers etc and do things dynamically) 3.     - Workflows and Forms Authentication Hello, I'm using Windows SharePoint Services 3 and SharePoint designer 2007. I've set up forms authentication and it works fine however, custom workflows fail now when attempting to set the "assigned to" field when creating a new task. For example, a user fills out a custom list and one of the fields is a person or group. When the user selects a person and submits the form it should create a new task and assign it to the person selected in the previous step. The error logged in the workflow history is "unexpected error". If I remove the "assigned to" field from the workflow then it completes successfully. Here is the entry from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12 log: System.Workflow.Runtime.Hosting.PersistenceException: Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80020005): Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. at.... I've confirmed that this problem only occurs when trying to assign the task to a person within the custom membership provider. If I modify the workflow to assign the task to a local user then it works fine. Additionally, if I pass the value to a single line text field then the workflow will complete and set the value to membershipprovider:[USER] where [USER] is the username of the correct person. If I edit the newly created task and set the Assigned to field to membershipprovider:[USER] it will assign the task to the correct person. I googled the error and there was a hotfix released for wss2 that was then distributed with wss sp2. Perhaps the error has been reintroduced in wss3. I downloaded and installed all available patches from MS with no change. Any help is greatly appreciated (please don't bash me for cross posting - the other post has gotten stale with no answer).     - dispersed sites - crawl with WSS Instead of spending money on bandwidth, we had an idea to disperse our WSS servers. So, we would have a central site with regional sites. Assume in this example, site A, B, and the central site. The central site hosts the portal functionality and in WSS the crawling of regional sites only. Problem is the BDC Catalog indexes are not getting propagated to query server and therefore we are not seeing search results when we execute search query on dedicated query server. I need some help to trouble shoot this setup. Additional info CSTAR web application queries MOSS query web service QuereEx web method ( http://server/_vti_bin/Search.asmx ) to retrieve search results PS: Looking for someone who has setup a farm with atleast one dedicated index server and one dedicated Query server for search.     - Tasks Errors Hi there, I've assigned some users an approval workflow. They received notification via email. Most users are ok. One user however, when he clicks on 'Edit this Task' in outlook he gets the following Error dialog box: 'An error occurred while retrieving the workflow task details. This could be caused by not having connectivity to the server or because the task no longer exists.' I've checked and the tasks do exist. What other things could be causing this Thanks.     - Sharepoint Service V3 schedule backup Help Hi I'm new to Sharepoint Services and I'm now trying to find information on how to setup a schedule backup for my Sharepoint Service V3 .     - how to setup trusted connection to a sharepoint list through Access DB Hello, I have a package that reads data from a SharePoint list through an Access database using linked tables. Package is using an OLE DB connection to connect to access and everything works fine except that package keeps asking for username and password to connect to the sharepoint list. I played with the security settings in the OLE DB connection but that didn't help. Is there any way to configure the connection so that it uses windows authentication If I a open the access database directly in access, it doesn't require any username or password to view the data from sharepoint list.     - "There are no page layout files available in the master page library of the top-level site..." I deployed a page layout via a feature to the Site Col. and I now receive this error upon trying to create a new page. "There are no page layout files available in the master page library of the top-level site. Add one or more page layouts to this library before you create a page or set page properties" I verified that the feature is activated and the page layout (and the OOTB page layouts) are in the master page gallary. Has anyone seen this error I assume that there is a problem with my page layout. But this error is fairly generic.     - How to deploy application template core to WSS site I could not able to deploy application template to WSS site. From http://go.microsoft.com/ LinkId=5922037 I did the following steps 1. Download the solution EXE file to my computer. 2. Run the EXE file to unpack the template file to a location on your computer. 3. Select the solution file, ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp, from the extracted distribution. This solution file will be added to the Windows SharePoint Services solution store. 4. Via command line, run "stsadm -o addsolution -filename ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp" im getting error message as "the specified file was not found." when i tried to run the command.     - Hiding sign in control from anonymous users Hi there, I'm developing a WCM website in MOSS and so have two entry points to the website - one web app for internal use to edit the site (i.e. you have to authenticate), and one for the website (i.e. anonymous access). I've created a master page which obviously has to contain controls that allow users to log in and author content. However since the same master page is used for both web apps, I need to hide those controls when the site's being accessed anonymously. I don't want there to be a 'Sign in' link when viewed anonymously. I've written a simple piece of code to test whether the site is being requested internally or externally (anonymously), and want to use that logic to hide these controls. I've put the controls on a panel and that gets set to Visible=false when the site is accessed externally - however I'm still getting a Windows authentication login prompt. I currently have the code in the Page_Load method - my current thoughts are that this is the wrong method to be doing this in but I haven't got further than that yet. I've made sure the site is set up correctly for anonymous access by setting the site to use BlueBand.master and can access that fine anonymously. I'd really appreciate it if someone had some ideas on what I need to do to get this to work.     - task form not receiving data from the workflow My task form is extremely simple, but I cannot get it to receive values from the workflow. I'm writing two values to the task as follows (these are in the create task method, btw): Code Snippet managerTaskProps.ExtendedProperties[ "itemAssignedTo" ] = manager.ToString(); managerTaskProps.ExtendedProperties[ "itemTitle" ] = workflowProperties.Item[ "Name" ].ToString(); the manager variable is a SPUser class (it is set after a lookup function, it works, so I don't question it ) I have a feeling this association is taking place, its just that the form is not receiving/reading those values. Because the form works when submitting, I know data is at least going one way. I have the ItemMetadata.xml file as the secondary data source, and the fields in my form setup with field names with a default value (not the actual data source) of the ows_itemAssignedTo and ows_itemTitle, but I am at a loss as to why these values are not getting set.     - installing a template at the top level of a site Hello, I am wanting to create a site on one server that is developed on another server. Of course site templates work wonderfully for this purpose. The problem though is that I want the newly-created-from-template site to reside at the top level. The only way I know how to create a site from a template is by creating a sub site and selecting the template in the site creation wizard.     - Port Forwarding Error 404 My company is running WSS 2k3 and we have configured access to sharepoint on port 8082. To access our sharepoint box from an external location you would go here: http://mycompanieswebsiteurl.com:8082 The problem we are encountering is when you open a document library then click on any folder in the document library you get the error "The resource cannot be found. HTTP 404". When you look in the URL the port has been removed so it looks like this: http://mycompanieswebsiteurl.com/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx RootFolder=%2fShared%20Documents%2f.... My question is why is the port number removed from the URL when you click on a document library folder, and how can I fix this For now I'm having our employees manually enter the port number when they get this error.     - Missing "Upload Multiple Files" tap Hi, I can't find the tap of "upload multiple files". Could anyone tell me what is happening I have created a document library. In the "Upload" menu, there is only one choice - "Upload Document". After clicking on that, there is still nothing related to "multiple files".     - Browser-enabled Approval Workflows Hi When using the out-of-the-box SharePoint workflow for approval it is limited in web-enabled forms. When using the client application to open a file for approval a box fades in on opening the form which allows you to edit. When the form is web-enabled this does not happen, instead you must approve the form from within the Forms Library.     - logToHistoryListActivity not working Hi all, I created a custom wf with VS, it has a CreateTask and CompleteTask activity, and a logToHistoryListActivity. In the code for CreateTask, I use a try-catch block to trap an exception. In the catch block I'm trying to set the wf history properties of Description and Outcome to indicate an error in the Task processing, but I can't get my text to display in the wf task history list. I successfully used this technique in another wf, but it used only a Code activity and a logToHistoryListActivity. In that wf, I trap the exception, set the description and outcome props of the logToHistory activity, and I can see the results in the wf task history list. But I can't get it to work in this new wf that now uses a createTask activity.     - Unable to retrieve external data We are deploying SQL Server 2005 with Analysis and Reporting services. This deployment is still in test/development phase. At this point I am stumbled at publishing an Excel 2007 pivot table (linked to the SQL 2007 AS data cube) on the SharePoint 2007 server. I can publish a pivot table, but when I try to update/filter in a web browser I am getting following error: =================================== Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections: <Server Name> <Cube Name> The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access. Verify that data refresh is enabled for the trusted file location and that the workbook data authentication is correctly set. How do I ensure a secure and valid refresh operation =================================== I followed the Step-by-Step instructions from the MS TechNet article "Plan external data connections for Excel Services", but it did not resolve the problem.     - MOSS: view of your own documents I would like to build a view that would allow users to only see the forms that they have created in the form library. I belive SharePoint already does this with the recycle bin - you can only see the items you have sent to the recycle bin.     - Print a grouped view I am creating a list that will be a long sign off sheet for our operations department. I want to use Sharepoint so I can apply a workflow and change control on updates to the items but I need to be able to print the sign off sheets. There are a few fields in the list that I will be using to group the results and I would like to be able to print the grouped view. I can obviously download to excel but it it just to kludgy to try to group in excel. I tried a Print feature that I found while searching but it only prints a straight datasheet (More or less exactly what comes into excel). Does anyone have a solution that I can use to do this. I am currently on WSS 3.0 and we are still in test wth the product. I don't really have a tools budget to by any expensive solutions expecially for such a small task.     - Copy Files/Folders from one Site to Another I'm trying to find a way to programmatically copy folders and files from a document library on one site to a document library on a subsite of that site. I tried SPFile.copyTo and SPFolder.copyTo but they only seem to work between document libraries on the same site. Can anyone help me An example of what i want to do: Source Document Library: http://sharepoint/SiteDirectory/testSite/docs1/ Destination Document Library: http://sharepoint/SiteDirectory/testSite/subSite/docs2/ where subSite is a sub site of testSite and docs1 and docs2 are document libraries on the two sites.
