Hi All,
I am creating an sharepont website using wss3.0.

I need to create some users on this website which have view access to some folders and no view access to other folders

I tried this by adding a user in central administration after giving only read rights to websites,
he gets view rights to all folders in the website despite removing all rights at website level.
It didn't worked.

Can some please help me and tell be steps so that i can achieve this

I think you are doing something wrong, but I cannot say exactly what. Persmissions to a site are not set in the central administration screen. whatever change you made there (what did you set ) you should undo and set permissions only on the site level.

All the users should have read permissions on the site level, and then you need to go to the folder( ) that you dont want them to see and change it's permissions to not inherit from the site and remove the users from the permissions.

Thanks Ishai for your suggestion.

Great job.

Now i am able create user for web applcation without using central administration application.

However my problem of restricting some users from accessing one specific folder persists.FYI, i have given the steps followed while trying to implement the same:

I have created several folders inside shared document library.

Now i want to change permissions for a specific folder say A inside it while keeping permissions for other folders inside shared documents remains the same as for parent web site.

For this i went inside folder A, clicked on

Settings drop down->Document library settings->Permission for this document library->Actions->Edit permissions.

At this, i selected all the users and groups which doesn't need permission for folder A, then clicked Actions->Remove user permission.

After the users for which i removed the permissions don't have access to view the whole Shared document library rather than for only folder A (which is actually desired).

Can you please let me know the remedy for the same

Regards

You need to just click "Manage Permissions" in the drop down menu of the FOLDER. The same menu you would use to delete the folder or checkout a document.

thanks to both of you.I solved the parent-> child folder accessibility problme using stephen remarks.

My last question is what is purpose of policy for web application link in central administration and how it is different from creating user of a website by adding him in the one of the teams(team owner, team member, team visitor).

Thanks again
