    - Associate custom list form with a list Hi, I've followed the instructions at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointdesigner/HA101191111033.aspx to create a custom list form, but when it comes to associating it with a page, it fails. In the list properties, I click Supporting Files, and browse to the new page to use, and click OK to close the List Properties dialog box. If I open the List Properties dialog box again, it does not show my changed form. Nor does it show it if I actually browse to the site, and create a new list item. If I wanted to have a login page that all users go to initially, say http://mycompany.com/projectmain and from there they could see a list of all projects, what would be the best way to achive that by "the Sharepoint way" Of course I still want only ONE login, not multiple logins for a given user.     - sharepoint back up and restore hi, How to set up a remote file share before you run Backup and Restore I am trying to use Central Administration tool perform backup and restore functionality to move a site from one server to another. The backup seems to complete successfully on local machine, but when I go to restore the site on remote machine: It gives an error “Directory (restore machine path on domain) \\testserver\backup does not exist or the Sql server service account and the (back up machine path on workgroup). Perth\administrator service account don not have permission to read or write to the back up folder”.     - Change webpart properties programmatically Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately (you know what's coming next!) it did not work. If I try: this.SaveProperties = true; then everything is fine. However, I don't need to change the WebPart that is running this code; I need to change another one on the page. When I try: myWebpart.SaveProperties = true; the compiler gives me: Cannot access protected member 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPart.SaveProperties' via a qualifier of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPart'; the qualifier must be of type 'myWebPartClassName' (or derived from it) Since the WebPart I am trying to change is a standard WebPart, and not derived from mine, I can't access SaveProperties.     - I would like a smaller Search Input for the header of my site. Thanks for the reply Martin, But I am not trying to change the css values of the search box. I want to remove the first drop down box, with the All Sites, This Site and People selections, and have just the actual Search input box remaining in my header. Does anyone have a fix for that.     - Lost access to sharepoint mysites Hi, Thanks, I have now changed the setting in Central Admin and also created a new Site collection for personal hosts which mysite requires. The setup ran fine but now that i try to open a my site it says " Please wait while your personal site is setup for the first time and the default document libraries and lists are created. This may take several seconds." But the request times out. Any help would be appreciated.     - MOSS 2007 Users unable to edit their profile information Seems to me like the profile isn't resolving to the user, or the user doesn't have a profile. I'd look at the profiles to make sure this user actually has one and make sure profile import is working. Let me know if this is a cross forest environment or if the user has more than one NT account.     - Error when trying to create a Site or Site Collection Thanks Paul - Yes, checked the events log that but there was no interesting entry. Long story short, I ended up uinstalling WSS and starting from scratch. Here are the steps: 1) uninstall WSS 2) If you want to delete all of your WSS data (i.e. web applications, site collections, etc), follow these instructions 3) install WSS 4) run Configuration Wizard.     - Relevant information with SharePoint portal Hi, I work in the Health Care field at a health clinic here in the midwest. The executives of my company want me to create a very relative information rich portal. I am looking for some tips, suggestions, and to be pointed in the right direction on this. Is there any books, websites, or other tutorials that cover this topic well They want it set up so lets say doctor logs in, the doctor sees only announcements, news, and information relevant to him/her. If a provider logs in he/she only sees information relative to him/her. If a member of the nursing staff, business office, etc logs in they only see information relative to them. We are a company with abuot 150 doctors and about 1,500 employees. We have about 8 locations in a metropolitan area. They want a doctor to be able to log in and look only at information that is relevant to them, and not waste time looking at anything else. This applies to other employees as well, but especially for doctors and providers. I have the security trimming working well. That was easy to figure out and implement. I have a sharepoint site set up, with the doctors/providers having a subsite in the collection. Everything is security trimmed for them, where things that are for "doctors only" show up only for doctors. I'm wondering about the option of a "Personalization Site". Is it best to include this as a link they can click on for further relevant info Or is it a good option to have them begin at the Personalization site They are not interested in the staff having "mysites", but I understand you can still have personalization sites without having mysites. They are also very interested in KPIs and dashboards. Again, I am looking for overall direction on this. I am trying to create an instance of Collect FeedBack Workflow on a word document present in one of the document libraries in my MOSS 2007 Site.     - Custom content type Title Problem I am currently building some apps using sharepoint and I am running into a problems. To explain it in short: 1) I have a website (web_A) which has a custom content type “custom_A” which inherits from “Discussion” of group folder. 2) This website has a list in it called “webList_A”. 3) Situation 1: I create a new SPList item in weblist_A called item_A. Item_A is of type custom_A and I assign a title “Title_A” to it. 4) My view for list_A shows only the titles i.e. Title, LinkTitle and LinkTitleNoMenu 5) So far so good. 6) I now try to edit item_A and while doing that I change its title to “Title_A_New”. 7) Now after I update I expect to see all 3 titles to change to new value 8) But instead I see only “Title” changes to new value and “LinkTitle” and “LinkTitleNoMenu” have the same old value. Is this a known issue I need to have a content type inherited from “Discussion” in my design. I tried experimenting with alternate content types inheriting from Item, Folder etc and none of them seem to have this title issue. Is there a workaround Thanks!     - New To Sharepoint & ASP.NET Thank you Paul! I will look into the content query webpart more. So far I have been using the Page Viewer webpart and I have been able to at least display the contents of some of the files I want to host on these things and I looked at target audiencing these things but the way I understand target audiencing is that it is that the webpart is either displayed or it isn't based on the sign on of the user and the way that I am going to host these consoles there won't be any users on the machines. To answer your note about security, I am simply putting a cpu behind a wall and attaching a plasma screen to the front side of the wall at each of my offices and one of my administrators will log onto the machine and connect to the page for that office. Once connected, the resulting sharepoint page will display on the plasma screen and it won't be touched by anyone except one of the administrators or me. I do have the need to change the files periodically that are being displayed and that's where I have one of the problems. While file names and the types of files I want to display are being changed, added, updated and so forth the files will not be available for viewing at each of the specific areas so what I would like to have happen is that the particular webpart that is being updated does a query to see what files are available or "active" if you will for that particular webpart (if it's panel 1 then search for all panel 1 objects that are active and display the first active file, if it's panel 2 then search for all active panel 2 objects and display the first active file and if nothing is active for panel 2, go up to panel one and grab the active content in panel 1 and display in panel 2. The same would hold true for panel 3. Query for active files in panel 3, if no files active in panel 3 area go to panel 2 and search for active files and display the first active file from panel 2 area, if no files active in panel 2 area go up to panel 1 area and search for active content and display in panel 3). Do you think this is possible with the content query webpart The second part to this scenario I guess is where do I store the files that I want to be displayed Would they have to reside in a shared folder or would I have to create a document library for the sake of setting a status to the document of "active" or "inactive" I know the capability of setting those types of values to a file from within Windows is impossible and I know that I have to be able to toggle files status' between the two but I'm not sure how to accomplish that one just yet either so that's basically the 2 major things i'm trying to accomplish with this whole concept and if I can get it to work on at least one page, without having to write a bunch of back-end code, then I can recreate the additional pages for the other locations.     - invalid credentials on my own server Thanks Mike! I knew I'd seen that switch for the "Web Page Security Validation" but couldn't recall where nor even what is was called. As I continue to search for an answer to the other issue (unable to reauthenticate), I found a kb article describing a similar problem with the 2.0 Services. The article specifically states that "This problem does not occur in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0." The alert message in 2.0 was The security validation for this page has timed out. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again. In my 3.0 version, I was getting the Windows login popup. But as I think about it, I wasn't actually timing out -- I was in the middle of active work. hmmmm.... I left security validation turned on, but set it to never expire. For anyone else with a similar issue, I'll let you know how that works out...     - SharePoint Services Service Pack 3 errors HELP Thanks for that post. I can stop tearing my hair out now I've found a probable reason why all my most important sites stopped working on Thursday. I have several sites with custom data view web parts, some using list data from different sites. When users try and view the relevant pages they are repeatedly prompted for their username and password, and in the end get an access denied message. Our Sharepoint sites are hosted by an ASP (Active24) and I've asked for confirmation that they have installed the service pack last week. I've tried creating a new site and adding a data view web part with Frontpage 2003, and I get an error message saying "You do not have the permission to do this operation". I have administrator permissons on the site involved, but don't have top-level permissions. In any case all these pages and operations worked perfectly well until this week. I will also open a support call with Microsoft for this.     - Problem with Sharepoint customization I have a problem with VSTF and Sharepoint. I have installed VSTF 2005 successfully on a server using Single Server deployment. Everything was installed and verified correctly. I created my first Pilot Project (MSF for Agile) to see how this would work before I would create a production Project. The Project Creation went fine. I got to the Sharepoint site and wanted to Add a document under the Documents link on the left hand side (the quick Launch bar pane). Here are my steps: 1. Click on Documents link on the left hand side of the site. 2. Click on Create Document Library icon above the heading ‘Document Libraries’. 3. Click on Document icon under the heading ‘Document Libraries’. 4. Enter the pertinent information on the page and click on the ‘Create’ button. Here under the Navigation section, I selected Yes for the option 'Display this document library on the Quick Launch bar ' 5. Clicked the Create button. I go back to the main page for the site and noticed the Document that I created appears under the Documents heading in the Quick Launch bar (which is what I want). However, there are other documents under the Document heading in the Quick Launch Bar which I don't want. They are Development, Project Management, Requirements, Security. What I did was the following to get rid of them: 1. Click on Site Settings on the top bar. 2. Under the Customization section, click on Modify site content. 3. Click on the document library you want to remove. 4. Under the General Settings section, click on Delete this document library. 5. Repeated this for the above 4 documents (except for the Document which I created in the 1st part above). When I go back to the Quick Launch bar that has the Documents link, I don't see the Document in which I created in the first part. The other ones are gone (which is fine) but the one I created in the first part isn't there. I went to Site Settings-->Customization-->Modify site content, clicked on the Content I wanted to modify. I went to Change General Settings and made sure that the document library had Yes when asking 'Display this document library on the Quick Launch bar '. I save the changes but it still doesn't work. In fact, I created a new document to display under the Documents link and made sure Yes was selected for it to display and it still doesn't show. Has anyone else had this problem Sorry this is long but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible. TIA.     - InfoPath 2003: Generate a unique name for a form I have a form which can be opened in a SharePoint web site (button click). On the same site, there is a column called ApplicationNumber. After this form is filled, user can submit the form to the site. The form name will be something like "Application_00#", where # is the value of max(@ApplicationNumber) + 1. The problem is that there may cases more than one people open a new form. This may cause the their sumitted form with the same name, or same number. I preper to use increamental integer number as part of the form name.     - Using MOSS with existing file servers The page viewer web part can be pointed at a UNC path to a folder/share on a file system. The problem is that the SharePoint features of versioning, checkout etc. aren't there. Also, I think this approach uses the Exploror view which in my experience is one of the more flakey features of WSS. It'd be nice if someone could write some SharePoint code that interfaces with a file system and stores the sharepoint metadata in list but stores the files in the file system. We've got lots of files over the 50Mb default limit that should belong inside of our sites but can't. I have installed Onenote, and am trying to host a shared notebook on the Office Live sharepoint server. Via IE7, I can get to the files on the site, open them, etc, etc with no problem.

The problem comes when I try to have Onenote load up and automatically authenticate to the sharepoint server. At best, I have to click sync, then type in my windows ID username and password everytime. At worst, I have to close the notebook, and reopen it with https://xxx.yyy.zzz/notebook.

Any suggestions on how to get this to log into the sharepoint site automatically EVerytime I reboot I have to do this- not bad for me, but not an option for users....

Thanks Shane, I've tried that already. No luck. Still asks me to sign in everytime.
