Hi,

I'm working with the sample code in these 2 MSDN articles that illustrate creating and consuming filter web parts:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms499375.aspx

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms546216.aspx

I have built both the Region filter provider and the News Headlines filter consumer web parts and have deployed them to a test SP 2007 site following the steps outlined in this MSDN article:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms569191.aspx

I've added the 2 sample web parts to a test page on the site and have connected them. I have also added the SP Filter Actions web part to the page.

As long as the page is in edit mode I can use the Filter Actions web part to apply filters and successfully have the headlines displayed in the News Headlines web part be filtered based on the regions selected in the Regions web part. However, as soon as I take the page out of edit mode the Filter Actions web part is no longer visible and I am unable to apply the filter between the 2 sample web parts.

I've noticed that if I place one of the SP filter web parts on the page (e.g. the Text Filter) and have it connected to a consumer then the Filter Actions web part remains visible when the page is not in edit mode and everything works as expected.

It's as if the Filter Actions web part doesn't see any filter connections on the page when it's just the 2 sample web parts and so it hides itself.

What do I need to add to the sample code to make the Filter Actions web part remain visible to let me apply filters when the page is not in edit mode

Thanks for any help,

Joel

Re: SharePoint - Development and Programming Filter Actions web part is hidden

did you get a resolution to this i am experiencing the same problem with the filter actions web part not displaying even though there are correctly configured filters on the page. it was displaying and now it just stopped.

I am also trying to create better custom filters. I have found that the Filter Actions web part is only visible if there are appropriate filters on the page (Filter Zone)(and my web parts are not "appropriate" enough). I am trying to learn how to write a full filter web part that can participate with other Microsoft FIlter web parts - I will post if I find out how.
