We unfortunately were not paying attention and the SharePoint Services Service Pack 3 was installed automatically Wednesday morning the 19th. We do not have an image of server to roll back to and the SP cannot be uninstalled.

Does anyone have a solution to these problems:

1 - When users access our Intranet via SSL externally and attempt to look at a page with a Custom Data View of a list or DL from a different site they get this error:

"Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as FrontPage. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."
When users try to access theses same pages internally on the network they just get denied access to those pages. I have to mention it only happens on pages with a Custom Data View of a list or DL from a different site. Addtionally when our 3 SPS and WSS administrators view these pages internally everything is fine and the Data View Web Parts render perfectly so we think this is some sort of permissions issue possibly.
2 - No user can use the Edit in Datasheet view feature on lists. Whent the 'Edit in Datasheet View' button is clicked the Datasheet control appears to load however the page is redirected back to the default Stand view in every case.
We have a ticket with MS; however they are dragging their feet and has been over 48 hrs since we submitted the ticket.

Post back if you hear from MS please. I'm having the same problem with datasheet view that you describe (# 2). I hope there's a quick fix for this.

Thanks for that post. I can stop tearing my hair out now I've found a probable reason why all my most important sites stopped working on Thursday.

I have several sites with custom data view web parts, some using list data from different sites. When users try and view the relevant pages they are repeatedly prompted for their username and password, and in the end get an access denied message.

Our Sharepoint sites are hosted by an ASP (Active24) and I've asked for confirmation that they have installed the service pack last week.

I've tried creating a new site and adding a data view web part with Frontpage 2003, and I get an error message saying "You do not have the permission to do this operation". I have administrator permissons on the site involved, but don't have top-level permissions. In any case all these pages and operations worked perfectly well until this week.

I will also open a support call with Microsoft for this.

Same thing happened to my company on 9/21, Saturday evening. Opened a critical ticket but have not heard from MS yet. All our data view web parts are getting a "Unable to display web parts ..." error (we are accessing the sites in the network). The patch we applied is Windows SharePoint Service 2.0 Service Pack 3 (KB923643)

After Windows's Automatic Updates installed Service Pack 3 for our WSS 2.0, all of our subwebs and our subwebs under the sites folder won't allow the anonymous user. They get prompted for user name and password or "access denied" if you have disabled "basic" or "integrated" authentication.

Are you saying that when you disabled "basic" or "integrated" authentication the problem was corrected Or are you saying that after you disabled "basic" or "integrated" authentication you are now noticing the problem

I have found no resolution to the issue. We currently turn off basic and integrated authentication and therefore we get the message "access denied". But if I enabled basic or integrated, then we get a username and password prompt. Again, these are on subwebs only. The point is: Anonymous appears to be restricted.

Another note: The root web is browsable and appears to have no issue. But if I toggle the anonymous access within SharePoint administration page, then the root web will also give you an "access denied" error.

One more note: I can open the site with FrontPage 2003. But, if I open any *.aspx page to modify it, I get the error: "You don't have permission do this operation"

We're having an issue similiar to #1. We have 2 pages using the Data View webpart (display links other than the Quick Links menu) and the parts do not display on those pages. Instead they show the unable to display... error.

I'm an admin on that box and if I look at the page through frontpage I see the webparts populated fine. However in the browser they don't work for me or anyone else.

I immediately checked for the update you mentioned but don't see anything on the server after 9/15. But the webparts worked as late as the end of last week for certain. Was it bundled in another update that I should be looking for. We do have backup tapes so I have some hope of recovery; I just need to know when to shoot for.

Thanks and good luck with your issues.

Chris

We have the same issue with you. I'm happy because I found friends here. ;-)

Please report your symptoms to Microsoft so that they start making a fix. I have done for us.

sahirano, are you having the same exact problems as us Please be specific in the errors you have. We have been speaking with MS for 24hours now and we'd like to get all of them to them.

We have notice one more problem - I'll call it # 3.

3) When user click the ¡®Rich Text Editor¡¡¯ button when trying to modify a 'Content Editor' web part they get an IE Script Error and then a message that says 'Cannot open the Rich Text Editor'. We are getting this for all users including WSS and SPS administrators.

Has this been corrected for anyone else I've not touched the server other than to verify that we had not installed service pack 3 yet regardless that we were getting the same error others reported here. Yet at around 10 this morning the data view webparts simply started working again.

Bizarre. But it still makes me look good on some level, so I'll take it. Smile

Automatic update = stupid way to maintain your systems.

Testing SPs and hotfixes in a test/dev environment...Not stupid.

As a developer I agree with you completely Leontinealign; we did this with SP1 and SP2. Our server group, who handles general the updates/hotfixes, is claiming no responsibility.

Only to confirm: we have the exact same errors here - all three...

Please post any findings here everybody.

It appears the Sharepoint product team is working on a hotfix. We have been told to wait for this hotfix. There was not info given about when they anticipate the hotfix to be complete.
