How to deploy application template core to WSS site

I did the following way to install the install the Application Templates to my site.

1. Extracted the exe to some temporary folder

2. Go to Site Actions --> Site Settings

3. Then click 'Site Templates' under Galleries

4. It will take you to a list where you can upload site templates. Click Upload -- > UpLoad Documents

5. Now you can choose the template files stored in the temporary folder

6. Click OK and your site template would get installed

The following are the steps to create a brand-new site with the installed template

1. Log into your SharePoint site as the site
Administrator.
2. From the Site Actions drop-down menu in the top right,
select Site Settings.
3. Under the Site Administration section, select Sites
and Workspaces.
4. Select Create to create a new site using a site
template.
5. Complete the new SharePoint site information. In the
Template Selection section, select the Application
Templates tab. All deployed Application Template will
be listed in this tab.
6. Select the template to use for this site and click
Create.
7. A site has now been created using the application
template.

I tried to do the same steps as you described in ur message.

like uploaded .stp file to gallery and when i try to create new site with the uploaded template

I am getting the error message as

"Cannot open"SiteName/default.aspx": no such file or folder"

Then the problem is not with installation/upload of site templates.

The problem is definitely with site templates. Have you created site template or is it been given by 3'rd party

In what version of WSS the site template is created

What's the version of WSS into which you are trying to load site templates

The problem could be due to site template was created in a different version of WSS than it is loaded.

I using Sharepoint beta 2 version, i tried to use template "BoardDirector.stp" from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx familyid=79080296-A3E9-462C-B66E-55339A79B2C9&displaylang=en

Is it possible for me to use this template

I've downloaded the Board Director template.stp, installed in the gallery and created a site using that.

Since you using sharepoint beta2, i'm not sure how it can understand/sych-up with the teamplates created in RTM version of

WSS
