Hi, I'm having some trouble starting Excel Calculation Services from the Central Administration page > Operations. This is the error message I'm getting.

Event ID: 7034

An attempt to start/stop instance of service Excel Calculation Services on server LONGHORN did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below.

Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.

Parameter name: site

Any Ideas on how to make it start.

Thanks in advance.

Hector

Which beta version of Longhorn server are you using

The latest one. Beta 3.

Can you install Moss on a Win2k3 server instead

This is a known issue with beta LH server. You can try doing the following as a workaround:

sc sidtype SPTimerV3 unrestricted
cacls %SystemRoot%\System32\inetsrv\config /e /g "NT Service\SPTimerV3":R
net stop sptimerv3

net start sptimerv3

I've been having this same issue. I've included the following screenshots above.

I tried the workaround that that was discribed in the post above but it did nnot seem to be any help. Here is the log of the workaround i tried:

C:\Users\Administrator>sc sidtype SPTimerV3 unrestricted
[SC] ChangeServiceConfig2 SUCCESS

C:\Users\Administrator>cacls %systemroot%\System32\inestsrv\config /e /g "NT Ser
vice\STPimerV3":R
No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

C:\Users\Administrator>net stop sptimerv3
The Windows SharePoint Services Timer service is stopping.
The Windows SharePoint Services Timer service was stopped successfully.

C:\Users\Administrator>net start sptimerv3

The Windows SharePoint Services Timer service was started successfully.

I'm not sure what the intended outcome of running cacls was but that comand returned "no mapping between account names and security IDs was done" as shown above.

System specs:

Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 EE

SQL Server 2005 sp2 EE

Sharepoint Server 2007 EE

-windows authentication for all configured servers and services

Intel Core 2 Duo T7200

2GB RAM

200GB HDD

nVidia GeForce 7900 GS w/ 256MB dedicated RAM

Intel PRO 10/100/1000 nic

This seems to be the only real problem I've run into so far when running the sharepoit server in server 2008, has anyone found a successful fix/workaround for this or have any suggestions

You can start Excel Services on Longhorn (Windows Server 2008) through the following command line:

STSADM.EXE -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype "Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server.ExcelServerSharedWebService, Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"

Special thanks to Gunter & Ira from BI Test Team for this tip!

Re: SharePoint - Excel Services Excel Calculation Services not starting

Strange behavior when you try run this command line when log on as Administrator.

I have installed Windows Server 2008 June CTP with default Administrator account, and configuration on MOSS 2007 was with the same account, this account is member of Administrators Group, and my server doní»t is member of any domain.

When run command line with the option "run as Administrator", not promt with the "User Account Control" dialog, I ignored this detail, but when execute stsadm command line, this message happend:

"The service name and type specified are not valid. The service may not be installed or may not have been specified with the namespace or assembly qualified name, wich is case sensitive and required for services not in SharePoint."

For solution this behavior I need create any account and add this to administrators group, in this case "AnotherAdmin", after log off, log in with "AnotherAdmin", whit this new account, I run command line with option "run as administrator", and now "User Account Control" show me!!, finally execute the same command line stasadm and all is right!!

STSADM.EXE -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype "Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server.ExcelServerSharedWebService, Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c"

Operation completed successfully.

If this is a Web service, IIS must be restarted for the change to take effect.
To restart IIS, open a command prompt window and type "iisreset /noforce".

Thnaks to Ali about post start Excel Services on Windows Server 2008, only this detail stop me the installation MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008 CTP June.
