    - DOCTYPE When I attempted to add a doctype to my master page for a publishing site I hit a problem in FireFox with the system javascript menus not behaving correctly (things like Site Actions). You could end up sifting through a mind field of issues to resolve as you've seen from your layout problems. The doctype must come first and its definition is global to the page, you can't hack it to be applied to a section of a page as far as I know. There is also a setting in the web config to force web parts to render XHTML compliant code which may help improve things, although in reality you can't guarantee what html will come out of a web part. Other than that, you could try correcting some problems by creating your own master page, CSS and page layouts.     - Announcements across sites RSS web part should solve this but you need to configure your farm to use Kerberos authentication to allow it to consume an authenticated feed. Alternatively you could look at using the Data View web part, if you add this from within SharePoint Designer to a web part zone you can reset the page back to the site definition after the edit and the Data View web part will remain. The hashtable's contents seem to need a string key (the name of the column) and a SPCopyFieldInformation value. If you use reflector to look at the SharePoint Copy web service you can see that it uses this method.     - Search Scoped not visible in the Search textbox I just now found a thing , so would like to add to the above statements i have written: i Clicked on site actions -> site settings -> search settings ( under site collection admin) and then i selected the option use custom scopes and enterred /searchcenter/pages in it. After tjhat i clicked on homepage to see the options available in the search box , and i was able to see the 4 options in it: ALL sites, This site , people and word documents.     - Using SharePoint Designer & Page Field Filter Web Part I have a MOSS 2007 question about whether the Page Field Filter Web Part ( aka SPSWC ageContextFilterWebPart ) can be configured within SharePoint Designer. Create a page Switch to Design view Add a web zone to your page Add a Page Field web part into the web zone ('This filter is not configured' is shown where the webpart should be) Double click on the web part (a 'Page Field Filter' window will appear) The 'Filter Name' and 'Select a column...' elements are tagged as required fields The 'Select a column...' drop down list is greyed out and not usable. Clicking OK will not work as validation on this field prevents configuration. If I save the page and edit it from the browser, configuring the web part / drop down list is no longer an issue. I was hoping to use this web part w/o forcing the user to configure it each time a page is created.     - How to combine 2 calendar lists as a single view Common question that comes up in class. The short answer is out of the box you can't. It takes some work. Options you would have are. Create a custom workflow that writes events from one calendar to the other. Use the Content Query Web Part to aggregrate the 2 lists. There are other creative options but the truth is none of them are good answers in my book.     - SharePoint Look & Feel for custom pages If your ASPX page is running within the SharePoint context (within a site) you can definately do this... just utilize the OOTB master pages. What you want to do us use the SPWeb.MasterUrl property in your ASPX page so it uses whatever master is set on the site level. This is done using a token (read more here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms467402.aspx ). Then you want to add the bulk of your page to the PlaceholderMain content placeholder. Look at the figure 2 in my article here ( http://www.andrewconnell.com/blog/articles/UsingCodeBehindFilesInSharePointSites.aspx ) on using this token. That article goes one step further in packaging the file up into a Feature for easy deployment.     - What is peculiar about copying a multi-line Note field type (with Append-enabled)? I've learned a bit more about the cause of this problem ...hopefully the "right PM" will log this as a bug to be fixed as opposed to "working by design". The original code snippet is part of an SPD custom WF activity that copies selected fields from a source list item to a target list item. For testing, I've been using Edit Item on the source list item to trigger a change in the item to start the workflow. Part of the root cause of the problem is that when you edit an item containing the multi-line Note field (with Append-enabled), the plain text control is empty ...i.e. it doesn't contain the most recent/current value of the multi-line Note field (with Append-enabled). The control is not initialized with the current value of the Notes with Append field. When you save the edited item, the field has no value and is saved with "no value" and when the WF activity tries to read this as the source item field, it is null ...as opposed to the most recent value of the field (which some argue should be null/empty string because that is the value that was in the Edit Item control when the item was saved). This is totally inconsistent with the behavior of all of the other SPFieldTypes. Hi All,

I have created a new site named site01, and then i went to SharePoint designer and opened the hall site to modify the master page,, then i have created a new master page named as newMatsr.master ,,, http://myServer/test01/ and navigated to Site Actions > Site Settings > Look & Feel > Master Pages .. and as i know the new created Master Page called newMatsr.master should appear on the list of Master pages at the drop down list ! but its not therr ,, so what can i do

If the file has been uploaded/saved to the Master Page Gallery, double check it has been checked in and approved. It will not appear in the drop down until both of these items have happened.

Hello,

Actually i was searching the worong place, because i was opening the subsite on the designer, and there where i have placed that master page, and i discovered that the mastr pages on the site can be available if they are placed on the root site dir.
