Presence not uniform

Hello,

I'm testing SharePoing Service V3 and am a bit confused about the presence system. If I add the Site Users web part I get the presence pop-up with options to schedule a meeting and that works great. The presence status under the Modified By column for instance never shows any presence info. I'm curious where that info comes from

I guess I'm confused why the Outlook info shows up on the site users web part but not in other places.

Let me see if I have this right

If I had LCS the presence stuff would show green for online when a user is logged into chat and I would be albe to view Outlook data on a user in any place that has user presence info displayed.

I don't have LCS so I can only see Outlook data for a user displayed on the "Site Users" web part and can't see any presence info at all.

All my users have a sip address specified in the form user@ourdomain.edu. If I remove that info the Outlook presence info goes away in the Site Users web part.

I guess it is not a big deal overall it would just be nice if the user presence info was consistant accross the web app. Overall it is petty as I'm blown away by the app and the functionality built-in. It really is a killer app.
