Mike Wilson - WCCS

We are trying to add a "Department" column with type "Choice" (drop down) to the Helpdesk Server Admin Template provided by Microsoft.

We can add the column & input all the choices without any issues.

I can make the new "Department" column show up in any of the "Views" from the Service Request List that I have the ability to customize through the "Service Request - List Settings" screen.

But when we go to the "Service Request: New Item" or the "Service Request: Edit Item" screens the Department option does not show up, nor can I find any way to make it show up there.

These is a highly needed field at my work & would appreciate any help that anyone can send me.

We (IT Department) want to move to the sharepointy helpdesk, but without the "Department" field... Well you know how picky some people can be.

Cetomas

this has something to do with the content field being "Sealed".

i've been battling the same BS for a while. I am using the template currently for customers, but one complaint is that they can't assign priority or resolution date in the new item form, they have to go in and edit it after.

I'm considering rebuilding my own Site/List with all custom fields and lookups so that i can control it.

Very frustrating, limiting and ridiculous if you ask me.

If anyone has a workaround i'm sure a lot of folks would be grateful.

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but try it anyways.

  1. Go into your "Service Request - List Settings"
  2. In the List Settings, under the General Settings, Click Advanced Settings.
The steps I mention below only works if you are able to Click Advanced Settings.
If you cannot click Advanced Settings, then you need another approach.

  3. You should see some title like "List Advanced Settings: Service Request"
  4. In the Content Types setting, Click Yes under the "Allow Management of Content Types ".
  5. Click Ok to save your changes.

  6. You are now back at "Service Request - List Settings"
  7. Above the Columns section, you should see Content Types.
  8. Click Item link under Content Type (or whatever the name of your Item link says).

  9. You should see "List Content Type: Item".
  10. Go to the bottom of the page to see the Columns.
  11. If you don't see the Column you just added, Click Add from existing site or list columns
  12. You will see "Add Columns to Content Type: Item"
  13. Select your newly created column from the Available Columns and Click "Add >"
  14. Click Ok and you are back to "List Content Type: Item".
You should see your new column listed under Columns Section.
  15. Go to your Service Request List and create new Item, hopefully you
can see the new column now.

Hi,

Did you manage to get the functionality to show a list column in Edit and View forms and not in New form of the HelpDesk List.

thanks
