Hi,

We have a product that reads and writes xlsx and it works fine with Excel 2007. We implemented this some time ago, purely using the specs (i.e. no Packaging, no SDK etc), and later, more info from the Microsoft OpenXML team.

However, when we upload one of our spreadsheets (no external references, nothing that would traditionally upset Excel Services) it deems the file as corrupt and it won't render in web view. The Excel Services compatibility checker comes back with no issues, which is not surprising. It obviously works fine in Excel 2007.

We are fairly convinced, with some blunt testing that it is a OpenXML / Packaging issue to do with the fact that normally, we do not include a theme when we produce xlsx, which is fine by the spec.

If we put in a theme, then the xlsx renders fine in Excel Services.

Just to make us feel more comfortable, could you confirm that it is indeed the fact that Excel Services requires a theme within an xlsx package and perhaps let us know any other requirements that Excel Services has, over and above the basic spec for an xlsx.

Thanks in advance

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Can you attach a file like that to a post or send it to me via email (you can use this link to contact me and I will reply using my email).

I am asking around, but it would help if I had a file to test with.

Michael`

I need to know what is the function of an xlsx extension. Does it act like an xls extension, or is it a new function in Office Profesional 2007, and is there a converter for this to make other versions of office profession have the ability to read and write information to older versions of excel.

XLSX/XLSB are new formats in Excel 2007.
