Hi,

What will be limitation on number of items in a list I read Microsoft Whita paper, It says whatever limit microsoft has specified, 5 million is the limitation of the viewing items in browser by MOSS OOB controls.

I will have my custom webpart to show list item, In this case what will be the limit

I don't know what the actual figure is but MS recommends no more than 2000 elements in a single list.

However, I have a list with around 15000 elements and it works just fine.

This is only a recommendation, just to avoid slowness in rendering UI. UI can be further speeden up by writing indexes on List columns(only improve performance while UI rendering, has to do nothing with content db indexes)
SharePoint as storage system can handle millions of items in a list.

Keith Richie has a good post on 'his' understanding of the Microsoft Capacity Planning guidelines.

http://blog.krichie.com/2007/02/14/can-you-really-have-more-than-2000-items-per-folder-in-sharepoint-now/

so if you stick to the ~2000 per list/folder you won't hit any issues. If you go above this you need to be aware that you may see some issues depending on the use of the list an the way code works against it, as always if you are able to do your own performance testing based on your solutions that is the best approach.
