Hey! (Sorry if i've picked the wrong forum). I got sharepoint along with pro plus about 2 months ago and was informed about a month ago that I would need Beta 2 Tech refresh to carry on using Office after the launch.

I haven't tried to use sharepoint since until last week. It installed something before trying to open, then didn't open at all. When I tried again to open it, it displays, in a small box in the centre:

Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

(line about losing work)

Please tell microsoft about this problem.

(more lines)

Debug.....Send Error Report.....Don't send

I have tried pretty much everything and don't know what to do. Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Rob <SoMe-WhErE-oVeR-yOnDa>

Have you attempted to set your system date back to early January Sounds crazy yes but I have a client that I was talking to last week had this same issue and they were able to run there upgrade from that point.

You can refer to Joel Oleson's blog or mine for that reason with steps on upgrading to TR from B2 then ultmately you will be able to update to RTM. The posts in the blogs also reference Shane Young who did an excellent write up for the upgrade.

Thanks for trying to help but it still does the samething if I change the date to January 1st. If I upgrade to RTM then I could lose the problem, right Does upgrading to RTM cost Thanks again, Rob

Upgrading MOSS yes there is a cost associated but if you are working with WSS it is free. Also you cant just upgrade directly from Beta2 to RTM. The only supported method is clean install... upgrade from SPS2003 or from TR.

Sorry but I don't understand. I really just need sharepoint to work again. How do I do this Thanks for your help, Rob

Your question was if there was a cost for upgrading to MOSS RTM. Yes. There is a licensing cost for this product. You can however for free utilize Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0.

With regards to your recovering the Beta you maybe out of luck if the Date change didnt work but i am posting a link to the Sharepoint Team Blog.

I actually tried to post the blog information that was posted into the forum but it lost the links. If you go back to my previous post there is a link to the blog site that talks about this very problem. Good luck. If it were me and I was able to i would be considering starting this over again from scratch with regards to the build.... Depending on your situation I would never suggest upgrading a BETA product to Production in a real world environement. Too many unknown factors come into play and can cause grief in the end.

my 2c for the day :)
