    - Navigation over different Site Collection We ran into this same issue in an implementation we just released. You really have two options: 1) Manually update the navigation 2) Create something custom -- you can access other site collections from the DOM. We decided to go the manual route. The amount of effort involved in creating the custom nav and creating a UI for it wasn't worth it.     - Repeating table - how do I get my textboxes to be blank when I add new table? I'm assuming that by "add-new", you mean you are adding a new row to the table. Here are some things you can look at: Make sure your text boxes are bound correctly to elements within the repeating element. If a text box is bound to an element outside the repeater, it will show the same value on every row of the table. Right-click the Repeating Table control, select Repeating Table Properties, and click the Edit Default Values... button. Look at each of the fields listed and make sure the default values are set correctly. If you only want default values for the first row but not for subsequent rows, you will need to set the radio button to "Only to the data rows the user inserts". If the table is itself within another repeating section, then you will need to set the default values for the repeating section in the same manner as I describe in #2.     - Alert Question - do we need to upgrade? (please help!) Our company use SPS 2003 amd WSS 2.0 (of which I have recently been made admin of) with customer and partner facing areas. In these external facing areas we have discussion forums set up where customers can discuss our products with each other. I have recently been asked if these users are able to set up alerts on these forums - although they obviously have limited functionality / permissions i.e. no access to the My Site function. Is there a way round this If not in SPS 2003 what about MOSS 2007 (as this could be a valid argument for uprgading). Also a lot of employees have had problems with constantly being asked for their password and log-in details when opening doc libraries / docs even thought they are already logged into Sharepoint - I have instucted them to make sure our Sharepoint URL is in their 'Trusted Sites Zone' within IE options. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did remedy the situation. Any replies would greatly help a Sharepoint Admin in training! Regarding not understanding why the necessity of webdav, I believe that the functionality of the standard http access is far behind in terms of user friendliness and productivity when compared to the standard windows explorer functions which allows me to select multiple files with the mouse and move files with drag&drop.     - Create Site Column Definition for Business Data Type I am trying to create a site column definition for a column to contain business data, and I want to include this column in a site content type so that it may be re-used throughout the site. For nearly all of the lists and document libraries in this site, there is a consistent need to reference data contained in an external application database. I have successfully created the Application Definition file and I am able to query the SQL Server database using the BDC object model. In fact, I am doing this through several custom application pages. I have defined the custom site columns and the custom site content type and have deployed them "successfully" to the site through a Feature. When I visit the site columns listing from Site Settings, I see the Business Data column in the list - furthermore, when I click on the column in the site columns list and view the details of the column it appears to be set up correctly inside of MOSS. It shows the appropriate Entity and Instance when I view it, and also shows the appropriate Display field and secondary fields as defined. There are a couple of interesting behaviors, though, when I actually try to work with this column or content type in the site. The first odd behavior is that when I attempt to add an item to a list that has the associated content type, there is an error when the page attempts to render the appropriate BDC Field control and the BDC Control is disabled: "An error occurred while retrieving data from a system. Administrators, see the server log for more information."     - Save a Site Template including sub-sites Thanks, Euan, for the quick reply and the command line calls. These would get the "top" site and all subsites, but what I'm really looking for is an empty new set of sites, like the templating mechanism provides (either include content or not). Unless I'm missing something in the stsadm.exe options, there is no provision for not including the list/library content in the exported sites. As a bit more discussion... I've seen many web posts that recommend using sub-sites as a way of organizing information -- you can have the sub-sites listed across the tabs in the Top Link Bar, and each sub-site can present its own customized Quick Launch menu. These are great capabilities, and I believe the top+sub-site architecture is very valuable. However, if you are working on a development MOSS 2007 server, and you finally get your "application" (top site + sub-sites) configured and working as you want, you'll want to move it to the production server. Of course, you've entered test data in your development "application's" lists/libraries, and you don't want that information going into production. Normally, the "Save site as template" can be used to exclude the embedded data, but that function doesn't grab the sub-sites. The issue for me is even a little more complicated because I'm hoping to have many of these "applications" on the SharePoint server -- one for each business area -- all of which will have the same list/library/sub-site structure, but will have distinct data. Again, the "template" mechanism would be ideal, if it included the sub-sites. If the stsadm's export/import functionality can't exclude the content, I'm afraid I'll be left with two options: 1) use the export/import to make a copy of the development "application" in another site, manually remove all the data from it, and then use the export/import against it to have a clean data set; or 2) radically change my approach and move away from sub-sites, embedding all the lists/libraries into a single site, and creating my own navigation mechanisms within the site. I'd like to avoid this because we'd be talking about a rather customized site, and I've already seen how much of a headache it is to upgrade such a site when a new version of SharePoint is released. To get information about port on which mysite is hosted, Click on shared services under Shared services administration on central Admin page . (by default name of default shared service is SharedService1 ) On SSP admin page click on My Site Settings under User Profiles and My Sites .     - SharePoint Authentication Prompts... Hello all! After exhaustive research I can't tell why SharePoint repeatedly asks me for my password. We are running WSS 2.0 using Windows Authentication and every time a user attempts to access a site they are prompted to enter their password. Adding the root of the SharePoint URL to the Trusted Sites works fine but this is less than convenient with our user base. Could this have something to do with the alias that our operations team is using Instead of: ServerName/Site we have SharePoint.Internal/Site Pre-emptive thanks!     - Permissions for web part pages I have seen the same issue. I started with a 'publishing page with workflow' template and standard 'visitors' were not able to minimize their web parts. I then changed the property in sharepoint desinger like you suggested and still no change. look at these articles, http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/tags/Workflow/default.aspx scroll down towards the bottom of the page and you will see a title called "So You Want to Develop Custom Workflows in Visual Studio" There are 8 articles that will give you a decent high level walk through on creating workflow in Visual Studio.
