Hi,

I Have a fresh install of WSS 3.0 on Server 2003.

All I'm trying/want to do is use the 'XML Web Part' to display the RSS feed from an List.

However when I enter the URL to the feed into the 'XML Link' field i recive the message

"Cannot retrieve the URL specified in the XML Link property. For more assistance, contact your site administrator."

If I press 'Test Link' a new window opens and correctly shows the feed.

When I view the log file i see that no credentials are being supplied with the GET request to listfeed.aspx

If the application pool is configured to use the IUSR _<server_name> account I get a 401 5 Error

If the application pool is configured to use the Local System account I get a 401 2 Error

The web site is using 'Intergrated Windows Authentication' and NO proxy server is being used.

Everything else works fine. What am I doing wrong, surely this should be simple 'out-of-the-box' behaviour not the epic nightmare it is becoming.

Please help!

Do you need to have a domain account to get to the internet on your network It sounds like the accounts the app pool is running under do not have the permission to get to this URL.

Hi,

Thanks for the responce.

I created an account in active directory called 'WSS_apppool' and made it a member of 'Domain Users' as well

as both 'WSS_WPG' and 'IIS_WPG' groups.

I then configured the site application pool to use this account within IIS*.

*(I belive this can also be done in 'Central Administration' of WSS)

It's all good now, just goes to show...RTFM!

Thanks again.

Michael Herman - Parallelspace

We're using a 3rd-party hosted deployment of WSS 3.0 and have the same problem except in this case, I and my computer are not members of the 3rd party domain.

What's the soluton is this scenario

Michael.
