Hi,

I have a site collections with 7 difference sub-sites and each site containing more than 4-5 pages and atleast 1 custom list in it. I want to setup variations for the root site ("/") with English as the source and german as the variation. I create hierarchies for the variation labels, it creates subsites with names English and German in that site collection but it never replicates other subsites that are already present in the newly created English and German sites.

Can anybody help me out with the same.

Hi. If you're using a WSS site, you must to go to Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Modify All Settings -> Site Features

In this page, you have to enable the "Office SharePoint Server Publishing" feature.

You have to do it for each WSS Site. If you are in a Publishing Site, this feature is enabled by default.

After that, you have to go to the http://<serverStick out tongueort>/_Layouts/VariationSettings.aspx page. In this page, you must check this options:

- Automatically create site and page variations

- Update Web Part changes to target pages when variation source page update is propagated.

Hi ms,

I read somewhere that Variation don't work with existing site that is it won't replicate the existing content. Although am really not sure as to why this should be the case as often we might come across a scenario where in we may have to replicate the existing content. Still to find the solution for the same...

Moment i get a break through will let u know..

Hi mayur,

The issue that I am facing is that the subsites itself are not getting created with the target variations.

Whenever I access any of the subiste with the browser language set to target variation locale, it is still redirecting to the main sites subsite but not the variated site.

If I try the variation for the subsite itself it is not getting the webparts from the source site pages to the variated target site. Variations won't translate the content, but the structure they should replicate right.

I verified that my pages are published on Source variation site.

Any thoughts

Regards,

mswin

Hi MS,

I assume that you are trying variation on a completely blank site and not on a site that is already created. Following things that you should do to find out if there's any problem...

1) Enable diagnosting logging using Central Administration --> operations --> Enable Diagnosting Logging. Do this for the type publishing and let the other dropdown be Verbose. So that the log would have everythin in detail.

2) Myself once had faced this problem.. Try checking the server timer job status. Once you have published the page the Variations Propagate Page Job Definition job runs and publishes the page on variation site. So check if the job runs after you publish the page on source site.

Let me know if any more problems.

Mayur.
