I am an administrator for a site collection as well as for an individual site that I want to modify with SharePoint Designer.

When I open the site in SharePoint Designer, the Data Source Library is not available for me to interact with. It has the following all grayed out - +Current Site.

It will not allow me to access the Lists within SharePoint to modify views and create data form webparts.

Anyone else experienced this I am at a loss, as I have top-level privileges for the site I am trying to modify, as well as the site collection as a whole.

I could not really tell in your post if you have this issue only in sharepoint Designer

It turned out that I was not a site collection administrator when I double-checked the permissions with our site administrator. (Went to Site Settings > Users and Permissions > Site Collection Administrators)

After I was added as a site collection administrator at the top level site, I was able to access the data source library for the site I wanted to work in with SPD.

I have the same problem. Since I am designing sites that will be hosted by a big company on a shared server, I do not have Site Collection Admin priv, and never will - does that mean I am SOL Sob!

There may be another way. In SPD with the site open, navigate to _catalogs/fpdatasources. Right-click on fpdatasources and click on the Security tab. Click "Manage permissions using the browser." Add the appropriate permissions. You may have to refresh or restart SPD.

Hope this helps!
