Look I know this is going to sound wierd but I have the sharepoint problem to beat all sharepoint problems....

Here is the situation:

There was a Small Business Server 2003 (should be irrelevant, but just in case) where a WSS 2.0 site was installed. (with Frontpage extensions) with a SQL 2000 server on it. Now there was a major server crash. The only remaining files are the SQL database files because someone had the "good sense" to backup the 3 database files. STS_<servername>_1, STS_<servername>_1952259111, STS_Config. I believe the database ending in 9111 has the 8 WSS sites so I assume thats the content database. So to recitfy the situation I built a Windows 2003 web server and installed WSS 2.0 and installed SQL 2000 on another server. Then built a new site and tried to attach the content database mentioned above. However I got the error message:

The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this SharePoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again.

I get this error no matter what version of SQL I am on (2000 or 2005) and if I try to go to WSS 3 and have it upgrade the database by adding it as a content database it says run prescan tool hasnt been run. Well how can I run the tool without getting the content DB up on a WSS2 site.....Can someone help me please!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Screwed with Sharepoint

Hey,

What SP level was your old WSS running The error could be that you didní»t had any service pack on you old system, but you have it on the new one.

It is likely that the SharePoint databases were upgraded as part of a service pack application.

Refer to this table to determine what version you need to build.

This problem might occur when the versions of sharepoint from where you backed up is different as compared to that where you are restoring. To check the versions of sharepoint on both servers, do the following:

  • Locate the Bin folder of Sharepoint installation on both machines. It should most probably be <Drive>\Program Files\SharePoint Portal Server\Bin
  • Check the versions of file Mssrch.dll on each server.
  • Compare the versions, both should be the same
  • If the version of the Mssrch.dll file is 11.0.5704.0, it is Sharepoint installation without a service pack
  • If the version of Mssrch.dll is 11.0.6715.0, Sharepoint with Service Pack 1 is installed

Hope this helps
