Is there any way to get a document workspace to show up as a web part that I can add to the home page

Thanks in advance

Not sure if I follow this line of thinking. A Document Workspace is a site definition. Can you explain what you mean by show up as a Web Part

I want to be able to reference the workspace site in a web part that would appear on the home page. Something that would show perhaps the tasks that are due and by who for that particular project or something like that. We are a medium landscape contractor and are looking to use the document workspaces as a sort of project management tool. Perhaps I am wanting something not possible/practical. I know I can add a link, but I want something a little more interactive between the parent site and the child site.

Thanks

Sounds like you want to aggragate and/or Roll up information. This can be accomplished via Content Query Web Part (if you have MOSS). You might also look at the DataView Web Part and SharePoint Designer so you can repeat list information across a site, and this more than likely will be more manual in effort than the Content Query Web Part.

Custom development of Web Parts can easily do this but takes more time and testing.

Also to consider is the hierarchy. Will these be subsites of the site you are going to roll up or aggregate to

Thanks for the reply. I am a Sharepoint virgin, but I believe we are using WSS 2.0 which does not have MOSS (is this correct ). If I understand it correctly the document workspaces are subsites of the main site (companyweb) which is where I would want to aggregate the info. I will have to check out sharepoint designer and the other options you mentioned. Do you know how well Visual Express Web developer works with sharepoint

Thanks

My bad. Most of the scenerios listed above is for MOSS or WSS 3. IF you are using WSS 2.0 you are limited to third-party tools, custom develoment, or possibly Front Page 2003. I do not think Visual Express works with any version of WSS. There have been some discussion going about SharePoint Designer 2007 working with Wss2 but I have not followed this thread.

Front Page has DataView Web Parts which might be of some help.

Is it feasable/possible to upgrade to WSS 3 from 2 I thought I saw a DL link for WSS 3.0 somewhere in the MS site (perhaps in msdn).
