People search on user profiles imported from AD

Hi

I configured a full Active Directory import in the Shared Services Administration->User profiles and properties and I was able to get all the AD users imported into the server, however, whenever I search for people, I don't get any results back.

Assuming there's a relationship bewtween the two, how do I link Search People to User profiles , or, if these things are unrelated, how do I Search People imported from AD

Hi if you have imported the user prifile from AD.

Start full crawl on "local sharepoint server sites".

Add a people search box webpart and change the "target result url" to results.aspx

May be it will work

We are having the same problem as Daniel and have check all of the above on our server. What should the scope rule for the people search contain

Our has the following :

Scope Rule Type: Property Query

Property Query: add property restrictions:contentclass

urn=content-class:SPSPeople

Behavior: Include

When you do a full crawl and look under view scopes the people scope has a zero(0) for items, all sites has info and works.

Hello All:

We are experiencing sort of the opposite of this problem and I hope you can help me out. In our case, user profiles are still showing up in the People search results AFTER the user account has been removed from Active Directory (no longer with the company). The user profile has been manually deleted from SharePoint and the record is marked as deleted in the UserProfile database table. It seems like a database indexing issue as the deleted records are not being purged out of the database index Or something else I am out of ideas....

I would greatly appreciate any pointers you can give me on this. I am also new to SharePoint.

Shola,

Items are not removed from the index until 3 consecutive crawls had been completed, this is to allow for situations where content may temporary be unavailable due to network or connection issues. If the items were removed each time it would cause them to re-appear as 'New' items when the connection was re-established which would be incorrect.

Also check the crawl logs and you should see a 'delete' entry for the removed users.

If you are do not want to wait you could add them to the Search Results Removal page that will exclude them immediately, but this would become a fairly labour intensive process.

This issue has been going on for quite a while. For instance, there are AD accounts that have been removed about 3 months ago and their corresponding user profiles are still showing up in SharePoint. I am sure hundreds of crawls have been completed during that period. Concerning the crawl logs, where do I find these logs I was able to view the _MSSEARCH.LOG file under View Diagnostic Logs in SharePoint Central but could not find any delete entries in the last 10 days. Could there is an issue with the indexing setup I am not sure how it was setup before I took over the SharePoint responsibility.

You are absolutely right that using the Search Result Removal page will become labour intensive - I have thousands of accounts that could change frequently.

Do you know of a tool for manually searching index files I was directed to manually verify the integrity of some SharePoint index files (SPS.EDB) for consistency. We narrowed the issue down to a particular SharePoint index server.

Having this exact issue. Imported all users from AD and all the searches work except for people.

I looked into the scopes and it had the same entry "contentclass=urn:content-classPSPeople"

Were you able to find a solution for this Seems like it should be a simple tweak somewhere but I haven't found anything

else about it. Our install is really nothing complicated and should be considered "out of the box."

We are having the same issue in our SharePoint environment.. For some reason 0 items are getting pulled in through the People scope. I have setup a mirrored environment doing the exact same thing (3 servers) and it works right away.. I am getting failures on my mysite crawl which I believe is contributing to the problem. It says the crawls fail, but you are able to pull new items up in the search..

I have narrowed it down to a failure audit on the search server for one of the service accounts.. I have tried changing the password and even changing the service and seem to get the same result. All accounts are in the local admin's group on all three servers.

I have seen similar posts to this issue, with no responses..

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just jumping in late:

Have you checked your Content Source and ensured that the mysite host is included as both:

http://mysite.company.com and sps3://mysite.company.com

This resolved it for us.

Hello All:

Just as an FYI, I found the culprit in the situation I described earlier. The AD accounts were still in AD. I found out that the accounts were not removed/deleted as I was earlier led to believe, but they were MOVED to an OU that is "not accessible" to crawls. My SharePoint implementation somehow has access to this OU....our AD team is researching this.

Just thought to let you all know in case you run into this problem in the future - try a manual search of AD for people using the People Search tool included in Windows XP (Start --> All Programs --> Search --> Printer, computers or People --> change drop down to AD. The people you find will definitely be accesible to SharePoint crawls. My index server did not actually have any problems...it is doing what it is supposed to do.

You can restrict the query that SharePoint uses to retrieve users from AD.
