I have created an excel webservice that contains a couple of pivot tables. I have add the spreadsheet into my trusted location, I have also added the data connection into the trusted location. So when I open up the dashboard containing the pivot table it displays the pivot correctly. My problem occurs when I try refresh the pivot the table I get this error. Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections: The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access.     - Integrating SPS Portal Events List to an MS Access Relational DB Zoiks. I am, maybe, a power user. Unfortunately I do not have the appropriate education to dive that deep into programming to make this system work. I thought that a simple import and link would work. Fortunately the business will not rely on this system. It will only make our lives easier. Most in the organization would use the calendar only for information, while the data behind it is for us trolls the important part that we use for our operations. we are trying to reduce redundancy and to not enter event stuff twice would be a wondrous thing. I also need to make this a self sustaining system as I will leave here one day, and the person following me will most likely be only a user. So, having complicated steps for updating is not feasible. If there are any out there that have integrated access and SPS and have some ideas, case studies etc, for beginners or a simple workaround, I would appreciate it. I like the Business Data Catalog Defintion Editor (who would want to write that XML manually), but it is quirky. I look forward to an improved version of it.     - Remote site Hello, We are planning to use WSS V3.0 to centralize information among our branches. However, the different sites are in Europe & Asia and the time latency is not very good between them. Consequently the access is quite slow and you have to be very "patient"... One solution could be installing 2 wss in Europe & Asia. but then the question is, do we have any options to synchronize two remote sites I don't see any documents related to such issues, but I guess I am not the only one who needs that kind of feature. If we have a look to some other product like Lotus, it is a very common option... I know that we can synchronize two SQL db, but there is not much information regarding WSS application... I'm trying to solve a problem that appeared when I tried to create a simple page with the list of documents from my document library. I need Title field displayed as a hyperlink to DispForm.aspx, not to Document itself, and not to a dropdown menu with Edit option. The reason of this requirement is that we don't like to allow users to download document w/o reading metadata assosiated with it. On the other hand, ordinary user must not see Edit links in menu, because we don't want to tempt them to try edit document at all. Of course, I can customize the data view in Sharepoint Designer - go to Code View and manually change <xsl:value-of select="@FileRef "/> to something like ..../dispform.aspx ID=<xsl:value-of select="@ID"/ >.     - MOSS - "File Not Found" after creating with site template (stp) I have a site templates (stp) file I saved off and applied when creating a site. It all appears to have been created sucessfully, Then I noticed on all the lists, doc libs, discussion boards, etc on the site, I click on them and get a MOSS (not an http 404) File Not Found error. It is attempting to load the view on "lists/<listname>/allitems.aspx as I would expect. But it gets this error. I checked, the library(s) are there and configured properly. I have seen this happen a while back and it mysteriously cleared itself up after a day or 2 . There is absolutely nothing in the event log about it. MOSS is acting like everything is hunky dory.     - Immediate Alerts Not Running I have a medium server farm with two front end web servers. I'm a bit perplexed about a problem I've had with one of the servers. When I go to Central Administration > Operations > Timer Job Status I see that the Immediate Alerts service has failed with a status date of 10/9/2007. However, the other web server shows the status updating every 5 minutes as expected. I have disabled and reenabled alerts for the servers, both in Applications and using the stsadm command line tool. I have also changed the frequency of the alerts and even attempted to update the alert templates. I have restarted the server and I still get no update to the status date. It seems there is nothing that will tell the first server to kick off and retry running the timer job. Has anyone experience this and is there a way to instruct a specific server in the farm to run a timer job Thanks!     - Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url' on upgrade from wss2 to wss3 Hey Sungsit. The first thing you need to understand is that SPS 2003 and MOSS 2007 don't have the same database (i mean they dont have the same set of tables, some are the same, some are new, some were deprecated). When you start migrating what i found so far is that the migration starts by creating one of the new tables, then tries to move the content (probably within a transaction) and then deletes de old table if the transaction went right. The AllUserInfo is a table from SPS2003 (it was replaced by AllUserData), so if you dont have it anymore it means that the migration process already processed that table and it went ok. However the error tells you which table (of the new ones) is having the problem when trying to move the content "SPContentDatabaseSequence] [ERROR] [4/9/2007 7:34:36 AM]: Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.AllUserData'." Thats an example and it says that the problem is given with the AllUserData table. So, you need to check the error log, then guess which one is the old table that is going to be replaced by that table and go into that table and figuire it out which rows are making the error and delete them (other way is to delete random sets of rows and check if the migration process gets through) I hope this helps.     - Workflows and Forms Authentication Hello, I'm using Windows SharePoint Services 3 and SharePoint designer 2007. I've set up forms authentication and it works fine however, custom workflows fail now when attempting to set the "assigned to" field when creating a new task. For example, a user fills out a custom list and one of the fields is a person or group. When the user selects a person and submits the form it should create a new task and assign it to the person selected in the previous step. The error logged in the workflow history is "unexpected error". If I remove the "assigned to" field from the workflow then it completes successfully. Here is the entry from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12 log: System.Workflow.Runtime.Hosting.PersistenceException: Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80020005): Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only. at.... I've confirmed that this problem only occurs when trying to assign the task to a person within the custom membership provider. If I modify the workflow to assign the task to a local user then it works fine. Additionally, if I pass the value to a single line text field then the workflow will complete and set the value to membershipprovider:[USER] where [USER] is the username of the correct person. If I edit the newly created task and set the Assigned to field to membershipprovider:[USER] it will assign the task to the correct person. I googled the error and there was a hotfix released for wss2 that was then distributed with wss sp2. Perhaps the error has been reintroduced in wss3. I downloaded and installed all available patches from MS with no change. Any help is greatly appreciated (please don't bash me for cross posting - the other post has gotten stale with no answer). we have just updated / moved the old sharepoint.. to a new server. but we still have some issues..

so far we can only use the sharepoint inside. our https://www.homesite.dk/remote is pointing to the old site. i have tryed meny ways to make it apple to connect to outside. but still no luck.

is it posibul to maybe. some way make sharepoint 2007 access apple from outside. on a site like www.company.dk:8035 just to give a example.. then i think i might be apple to get the remote to connect to the new server.

There is a lot that goes into getting things accessible from various places :-) and most of them DON't occur just within SharePoint. DNS, Host Headers, Firewall configuration, etc... all come into play here.

i still get this message when i try from another location

i have checked and added the thing you sayd to it. both in dns and in the administration off sharepoint

try pinging the domain from the outside. also check the firewall, it may be blocking it.
