    - SetRange Performance Jason, Looks like ECS preocessing time is close to 100 ms. The WFE time (which includes the ECS processing time) is also pretty close to this. You should profile your code to see where the remaining 250+ms are going.     - waiting for 2 events to happen... Not sure, I removed the OnWorkflowItemChanged event, and I still receive an error. I don't think its exactly what I posted before, but similar. I get "the value cannot be null" error as soon as the item is updated (having NO OnWorkflowItemChanged activities) which seems crazy. Then on submission of the task form it acts like it doesn't go anywhere, you submit the form but the edit task bar reappears. if you do it the other way around, the workflow errors out. I have 3 ifElse Branches after the OnTaskChanged activity, 2 of them work (approval moving on to completing the workflow, and then rejecting) the third which will send it on for a second approval doesn't happen, which checks 3 boolean values (that i know get set correctly, so it must lie in the OnTaskChanged event) I'll try recreating my OnTaskChanged event and see what happens tomorrow.     - 2436 Error - With a twist :) Well recently the server started recieving 2436 errors. After spending a whole day googling and trying numerous suggestions, tearing my hair out, the next morning I almost instanty figured out what the problem was However I still haven't found a solution, hopefully some guru's out there can help... Explanation below: Setup: WSS 3.0, fully patched. Single server install. I have two sites on our server, one internal over http: and one external using https: mapped to separate IP's. The server at some point started giving pairs of 2436 errors, one for each site. I wont go into all the other 2436 suggested fixes, but they mostly focused on permissions and loopbacks not working. This problem ended up being permissions in a different way... A few weeks ago we disabled integrated windows authentication on both sites because we are running novell logins instead of windows logins for all users (this will hopefully change soon, but thats the way it is ). By disabling integrated windows authentication, the service/content accounts which were manually keyed in and belong to the neccessary groups, ceased authenticating to the server! Turning integrated authentication back on fixed the problem, however we want to run with it OFF given our sad/unique environment.     - MOSS + FBA + Navigation + Anonymous Access Enabled/Disabled I have publishing site with FBA enabled and have following site structure Home [Anonymous Access Enabled] |___ News [Anonymous Access Disabled] |___ Updates [Anonymous Access Disabled] Default Behavior When user reaches the web site he has only home tab visible and once user is logged into the site then he can see all tabs like [Home | News | Updates] My Requirement I would like to show all the tabs in pre login state. But when user click on News or Updates tab he should be redirected to login page since he is in pre login state. I am using CombinedNavSiteMapProvider from siteMap > providers section with securityTrimmingEnabled="false" but no luck. Please let me know if I am heading towards wrong direction.     - Changing Color for Links Okay, my links that I'd like to change the color for are coming on a page that has a "Summary Link Web Part." When opening this page in SharePoint Designer, I'm not able to find where to access the core.css file to change these link colors. The way I've been accessing the core.css file is by clicking under the "css properties" tab where it says "Applied Rules". When I select a row with an applied rule, a link to "core.css" becomes visible. So then I click on the link and open up that "core.css" file that way. However, after messing around in there and attempting to change color codes, I had no luck. Needless to say, I must be going about this in the wrong way. 1) Is there another way to access the "core.css" file to change the "summary link web part" 2) Is there anything else I need to do once I edit code in the "core.css" page other than saving the file P.S. I also followed this tutorial on uploading your own css style sheet to the T: http://geekswithblogs.net/RogueCoder/archive/2007/02/06/105588.aspx . It's all about making your own CSS file and uploading it to the Core folder. I did that and then connected that style by applying it to the Master Page. Yet no changes in the colors took place. Rrrrrr! So frustrating. In this regard, I'm not sure what I'm not doing correct. LIke I said, I followed the tutorial to a T. These are the steps I followed: 1. Create Empty SharePoint project. 2. Add Content Type called "Client", this creates a "Client" folder with the files Client.Fields.xml and Client.xml 3. Added 2 Custom Site Columns/Fields to be associated with the Client Content Type.     - where to fill out the form Not sure if this is a stupid question - I have published and then activated an administrator-approved form template on my site collection. I can see the template at http://server ort/sites/Forms/default.aspx --> View all Site Content -> Document Libraries -> Form Templates -> my_test_temp. If I double click on the template, a fillable form opens in the browser. I can fill in the form. The issues are: 1. There is no save or save as. I can only see Close | Print View. 2. When I hit "close", the form closes and I don't see the "document" I filled out though. Where is the document/form (not the template) that I filled out That makes me think that I need to go to a different place to "use" the template to create documents/forms. but where thanks.     - Updating navigation links Hello, I would appreciate any tips or advise you can give me about this issue. Our company is using MOSS 2007. I noticed our navigation breadcrumbs are not being updated when we move sites around from underneath each other. For example: Current structure and navigation: HomeSite > SubSite1 Changes: Move SubSite1 one level down from underneath HomeSite to CategorySite (so that HomeSite > CategorySite > SubSite1 ) Problem: Breadcrumbs navigation at the very top still display HomeSite > SubSite1 instead of HomeSite > CategorySite > SubSite1 Interestingly enough, the links still take you to the correct site... In addition, any sites that we brought over from the old version of SharePoint displays our old "home" link, but takes you to the current one. For example, old home was called Intranet1 and was renamed to Intranet2 upon conversion to 2007. The old sites still display Intranet1 but takes you to Intranet2 .     - Document Library Modified / Created Date after File Upload Hi Everyone I've got loads of documents from the past 3 years that i want to transfer to a number of sharepoint site document libraries When i upload the files through a drag n drop in explorer view, the files appear to retain the correct metadata for Modified Date, Created Date and Author. However, if you go into any other type of view, you get the date and time of upload plus the user who uploaded it instead of the correct meta data. Now, i've seen a couple of apps out there (like DocKit) that claim to solve this problem, but i can't seem to get them to work properly (nor do i want to spend hundreds of dollars on them) Anybody know an easy way to fix this, because it will get really confusing for end users who often use the date created / modified to identify the correct document. If you don't, and there is someone from the sharepoint dev team reading this: Please fix this in a service pack as it is stopping Sharepoint from being a truly great bit of software!!!! My controls all use ASP.NET 2.0 theming, with the themes mainly setting CSS classes which exist in a CSS file in the directory with the .skin file.     - Sharepoint Services Web Application "Status Upgrading" Hi all, I upgraded from Sharepoint 2003 to Sharepoint 2007 - it all went through OK, but when I look at the Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration, it shows under "Assign Services" that the web application is "required on farm, not running" with a status of "Upgrading". I have tried all of the fixes that I can find; they all seem to end up the same way, reporting that they cannot continue as "an upgrade is in progress". Also re-started, re-assigned server etc - none of this makes any difference. All of the advice in the manuals seem to suggest that I should be able to re-start the service by clicking on the link, but the page doesn't actually provide that function. Most of the 2003 sites are running OK, and some of the admin is also OK; however, there are some pages that won't display, presumably because of the status of the web application.     - SharePoint Server 2007 Content Deployment Issue Hello, We want to deploy Document Libraries, Form Libraries, and site content (InfoPath docs - these are .xml files) that currently exist in our DEVELOPMENT environment (running SharePoint Server 2007 and SQL Server 2005 on a single machine) to another DEVELOPMENT (aka SANDBOX) environment (also running SharePoint Server 2007 and SQL Server 2005 on a single machine). We are doing this between 2 separate DEVELOPMENT environments to "proof" it out before we try this between our DEVELOPMENT and STAGING and eventually between our STAGING and PRODUCTION environments. We tried deploying this using the following 2 tools: 1. Content Deployment process (in Central Administration >> Operations) - I setup a "Path" between the source and target environments and then created a "Job" and assigned it to the "Path." 2. "stsadm" command line utility (used the "export" and "import" operations) But we are getting this SAME error when we run these tools: [8/6/2007 1:11:27 PM]: FatalError: Could not find Feature FT-01-df5c1223-9072-7ded-b47b-a39ffc8cb5be . at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.ImportRequirementsManager.VerifyFeatureDefinition(SPRequirementObject reqObj) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.ImportRequirementsManager.Validate(SPRequirementObject reqObj) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.ImportRequirementsManager.DeserializeAndValidate() at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.SPImport.VerifyRequirements() at Microsoft.SharePoint.Deployment.SPImport.Run() The ��Feature�� that the error is referencing above relates to an InfoPath template that was published to a Form Library. There is a corresponding folder under FEATURES for FT-01-df5c1223-9072-7ded-b47b-a39ffc8cb5be . The InfoPath templates that we developed contain custom VB.NET code (coded using Visual Studio Tools for Applications). And any InfoPath template containing custom code needs to be approved by the SharePoint Administrator. So the templates first get published to the Central Administration site (under InfoPath Forms Services). The SharePoint Administrator can then Activate it to a Site collection. So a site collection (containing Form Libraries) needs to exist BEFORE the InfoPath Templates can be activated. If this is the case, then it looks we need to FIRST create a "Blank" site in the target environment (including empty Document Libraries, Form Libraries, etc) in the SANDBOX environment BEFORE we can use the Content Deployment tool (or the stsadm utility) to deploy content. Am I correct Or does the Content Deployment tool (or the stsadm utility) actually create the site structure (including Document Libraries, Form Libraries, etc). Am I using the correct tools (Content Deployment, stsadm) to deploy content or is there another tool that I should be using Any help or guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. In the Central Administration site, click the Application Management tab. 3. Under the Application Security section, click the link titled Authentication Providers. 4. If the correct web application is not already selected, drop down the Web Application selection list and click Change Web Application. 5. On the Authentication Provider page, click the Default Zone link. 6. On the Edit Authentication page, uncheck the box labeled Enable Anonymous Access 7. Click the Save button Well, done.     - People search on user profiles imported from AD Hello All: We are experiencing sort of the opposite of this problem and I hope you can help me out. In our case, user profiles are still showing up in the People search results AFTER the user account has been removed from Active Directory (no longer with the company). The user profile has been manually deleted from SharePoint and the record is marked as deleted in the UserProfile database table. It seems like a database indexing issue as the deleted records are not being purged out of the database index Or something else I am out of ideas....     - Issues With Delay Activity So, I obtained the fix thanks to the Enterprise Go people - PSS couldn't help, YMMV - and Delay now works. Sort of. I set up a delay to repeat every ten minutes in an infinite loop. Watching the workflow history I can see the delay fire after maybe twenty minutes, then an hour, another time after maybe four or five hours. There doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to it.     - Problem with templates they don't work correctly, please read I have wss 3.0 setup and working great. However!!! When I create a site template it no longer (it did in v2) carries the default site view, toolbar setting or title bar settings with it in the template. Each time I create a new site off of a template I have to go back and change the view of the webpart/list, turn off toolbars and turn off title bar. Also I have found two links that don't transfer, this is a major problem. Follow me here for a second. I create a new site from a template, everything looks ok other then the views and title bars... I then click on the left menu bar "Document" or "List" expecting to see my list of folders but I get a file can't be found. When I go back and check the link at the top address bar it is trying to access the "Documents" or Lists" link from the origenal templated site and not the new site. New site: projects/v175/default.aspx old site: projects/v1001/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx BaseType=1 This is a major bug. Will someone please test this out on their install, I am using FBA. Create a template, then create a site with that template, then click the link address for documents and lists to verify they are valid to the new site. Thank You to anyone that can help me out. P.S. I am also using drop downmenu's in wss 3, this could be the cause of the problem if so how would you fix these two links ***Edit*** Fixed template for links by recreating template and starting over (must have broke something in editting) However this doesn't fix the view, toolbar and other stuff that doesn't transfer in the template.     - moving documents based on rules No, there are multiple ways to do exactly what you need (all of the ways you mentioned, plus a few others), you just need to write some code. There is some out of the box functionality that may come close, it all depends on what you need. Again, workflows (VS or SPD) or timer jobs would do the trick. You could also use event receivers. You will need to write code, though.     - waiting for 2 events to happen... Not sure, I removed the OnWorkflowItemChanged event, and I still receive an error. I don't think its exactly what I posted before, but similar. I get "the value cannot be null" error as soon as the item is updated (having NO OnWorkflowItemChanged activities) which seems crazy. Then on submission of the task form it acts like it doesn't go anywhere, you submit the form but the edit task bar reappears. if you do it the other way around, the workflow errors out. I have 3 ifElse Branches after the OnTaskChanged activity, 2 of them work (approval moving on to completing the workflow, and then rejecting) the third which will send it on for a second approval doesn't happen, which checks 3 boolean values (that i know get set correctly, so it must lie in the OnTaskChanged event) I'll try recreating my OnTaskChanged event and see what happens tomorrow. Hi

Using the 'Check Services enabled in this farm" I get the following warning:

"Web Front End servers in the server farm are not consistent in the services they run. Users may have intermittent failures while trying to access Web pages in this server farm. Navigate to the Servers in Farm page and make sure that the same services are started on each Web front end in the server farm."

When I check the services on the WFE's I see:

Office SharePoint Server Search
Windows SharePoint Services Incoming E-Mail
Windows SharePoint Services Web Application

on each WFE. What am I missing Should there be something else running on the WFE's

Are you sure that all these services on the web front end are in the 'Started' state Are any of them in the stopped or the starting/provisioning state

Thanks for the response - unfortunately, all services look OK. This is warning is accompanied by two error messages: "The query server index file location on <SERVERNAME> is not shared. This location must be shared to allow for this server to receive propagation." - one error message per WFE server. Bizarrely, they are NOT listed when the browser is running on the first box built in the farm - just everywhere else! I can only think there's a permissions problem somewhere, but I have already reduced my service account list down to the bare minimum.
