I have a quick question and hoping that you will help me resolve it or at least guide me in the correct way.

I am using MOSS 2007. When I create an issue using Issue Tracker web part and assign it to say ¡°Joe Doe¡± then Joe Doe receives an email with the Issue Details which is perfect but when Joe Doe logs in to the portal and makes changes to the issue then I don¡¯t receive an email. The only way for me to receive an email is to click on ¡°Alert Me¡± while creating the issue.

In our company, our users are not that sophisticated and my boss wants a system where they receive notifications automatically.

I also looked into the workflow option (3 State Workflow), it works fine but the problem is that they assume that an issue can only have 3 states, in our case we might have multiple going back and forths.

I am curious what kind of solution you might recommend

Your response is much appreciated.

Thank you,

I have just started to look into Sharepoint Workflow but I think you need to start looking into how to use Sharepoint Designer to create your own workflow or if you have a more complex workflow scenario Visual Studio

check this link

Creating Custom Workflows with SharePoint Designer 2007

or check the book Workflow in the 2007 Microsoft Office System that gives you more information what you can do with a workflow....
