Ariel Kirsman

Hi,

I'm getting a very generic with no detail error when trying to create a Site or a Site Collection in a fresh installed WSS 3.0.

This is the message:

Error

Cannot complete this action

Please try again

I see no relevant entries in the Event Viewer. Neither was able to trap exception by debugging w3wp.exe.

I tried uninstalling, fully cleaning WSS DB's, reinstalling, etc, no luck.

Ideas appreciated.

Tks in advance -Ariel

Did you check the diagnostic log

If not, this blog entry might help: http://paulgalvin.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!1CC1EDB3DAA9B8AA!154.entry

Thanks Paul - Yes, checked the events log that but there was no interesting entry.

Long story short, I ended up uinstalling WSS and starting from scratch. Here are the steps:

1) uninstall WSS

2) If you want to delete all of your WSS data (i.e. web applications, site collections, etc), follow these instructions

3) install WSS

4) run Configuration Wizard. If in step 2 you get an error saying "The language is not supported on the server", it means that the registry key that specifies the server's language got deleted; you have to manually add it by creating this registry key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\12.0\ServerLanguage] and inside it this string value: "1033" = ""

5) run c:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
