    - [Sharepoint 2007] set a masterpage on page level Part 1: I can't seem to change the master page for a single page. I use a Publishing site template. I have created a new content type, derived from publishing page / page (or page layout, tried both). Next in Sharepoint Desinger (SPD) I create a new Page Layout (Sharepoint Content). Here the masterpage from the site collection is automaticlally used. Next I create a new Page through the Sharepoint Web Interface (my sharepoint publishing site), through Site Actions / Create Page. Now in SPD I select the newly created Page and select Master Page -> Attach Master Page from the Format Menu. I select specific Master Page and select a different master page (sometimes I cannot browse to the masterpage folder, it is invisible sometimes, also don't know why). Now in SPD I see the page with the different master page. If I open the site in a browser the default master page is used. You would think that this would be fairly simple to implement, could somebody help me out with this. Part 2: We are now using a workaround for this problem, but this creates another problem for us. E.g. we have 3 pages (A, B and C), all 3 will have a slightly different layout, so we need 3 Master Pages. As stated in Part 1, we could not accomplish this. We decided to create to subsites for pages B and C and give them a different master page through the site settings. This works ok. But the problem now is the breadcrumb. if we go to a page from subsite B the breadcrumb looks like: siteA->siteB->aboutus.aspx to site C siteA->siteC->whoarewe.aspx in site A: siteA->home.aspx obviously we would like that siteB and siteA are removed from the breadcrumb, because we only used these to get the master page settings right.     - Is there a way to have "expand all" on by default in Sharepoint Calendar? Our team uses sharepoint calendars pretty heavily, and there are typically 4 or more items per day that folks need to see on the calendar. This means one of two things: Everyone has to hit "expand all" every single time they view the calendar OR Folks see the default view and miss an important meeting I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out a solution, and have dug extensively through the sharepoint menus and poked through sharepont designer and can't seem to find a solution to this.     - Update: Save error This looks like a new issue for sharepoint/XP. I'm not sure which one is causing the problem, but after upgrading XP (service pack/hot fixes), we get the following error message: sharepoint documents in this folder are not available. the folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server. Prior to the upgrade (which has now been completed for all users), there were no problems saving to the portal. symptoms: when saving a file to the portal, the save window no longer defaults to the portal, and if you map back to the location where you opened the document, you get the error message. temporary fix: make the user a local admin to the machine. Because a LOCAL admin can save documents to the portal, it leads me to believe that it's a GPO or SAV issue. I can find nothing in the GPO that would prevent saving to a network location.     - 'This page cannot be edited in SharePoint Designer' Error I receive a message stating that "This page cannot be edited in SharePoint Designer. You can edit the content in the browser, or edit the corresponding page layout in SharePoint Designer." upon attempting to edit the default.aspx page in the Pages collection of a site (any site). An instance of SP Designer is opened for the site, but no document is actually opened. If I then browse the Folder List (nav pane) of Pages - Forms - default.aspx and attempt to open the page, and I already have a copy of the SharePoint Designer open for another site, the other instance of SharePoint Designer opens a file named WelcomeLinks.aspx. I just thought I would mention it to see if there is a workaround or another way to open the document not from a content modification standpoint, but rather from a page layout editing standpoint.     - WSS Workflow - Monitoring Hi, We intend to write custom WF workflow within a WSS 3.0 environment. We want to know if there's documentation about the workflow execution statistics (what are they, where are they located, can we extract them to create dashbaords, etc.). We would like to have the ability to monitor the execution of our WF workflows within WSS as much as it could be done in a pure WF workflow. An example of what we would like can be seen at this site . This is a custom solution that monitors each workflow instance and linked it to the workflow designer to show exactly where the workflow is. One way would be to customize this solution to gather data within WSS realm instead of a custom one. This is where we need help since it is poorly documented from a WSS perspective.     - Problem with webparts and SQL Server Hi, I've develop a webpart to list some information from SQL Server locate on a remote computer. My webpart project use a DataAccess library that use Microsoft Application Blocks for the data Access. I've create a custom policy file to set to fulltrust every dll in the bin directory (I know that's not a good Idea, but I'm trying to get this thing work).     - If approved then Show Section Hi All This is what I need to implement. I want to create a form in infopath and let staff to fill it up. The management team members will have the option to approve/reject the forms. In case the form approved, another section should appear and allow the person who fills up the form to continue entering details. Rejected forms will not get this section. 1- I've created the first section which will be filled by all staff. 2- I've created another view for the management and I added a radio button for (Aprroved: Yes NO) I have to set roles for managment 3- I've created another optional section in the management. This section contains the details that need to be filled out if it is approved. This mean I need to create a rule. If the radio button (Yes) is choosen, Then Show this section.     - DMZ setup? We would like to setup an intranet side access to SharePoint with also a farm in a DMZ to allow internet access. Whether this is done by publishing to the internet zone or by direct access I am not sure yet. The internet licence is $40k, whereas I am led to believe we could do this WSS v3.0 on the internet side.     - The view file (.xsl) contains custom (personalized) id atributtes I’m using InfoPath 2007. I can’t preview the file manifest.xsf. Also I can’t open the manifest.xsf double-clicking on the file. I get the following error: (perhaps it isn’t correctly translated) Template of form: file:/// (directory)\manifest.xsf Infopath isn’t able to open view: Vista1 The following file is not valid: Vista1.xsl The view file (.xsl) contains custom id atributtes. Because InfoPath generates automatically id atributtes in the .xsl files, it isn’t admitted this view. To use the form, delete the custom id atributtes. Thanks for help.     - SharePoint Services Service Pack 3 errors HELP We unfortunately were not paying attention and the SharePoint Services Service Pack 3 was installed automatically Wednesday morning the 19th. We do not have an image of server to roll back to and the SP cannot be uninstalled. Does anyone have a solution to these problems: 1 - When users access our Intranet via SSL externally and attempt to look at a page with a Custom Data View of a list or DL from a different site they get this error: "Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as FrontPage. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator." When users try to access theses same pages internally on the network they just get denied access to those pages. I have to mention it only happens on pages with a Custom Data View of a list or DL from a different site. Addtionally when our 3 SPS and WSS administrators view these pages internally everything is fine and the Data View Web Parts render perfectly so we think this is some sort of permissions issue possibly. 2 - No user can use the Edit in Datasheet view feature on lists. Whent the 'Edit in Datasheet View' button is clicked the Datasheet control appears to load however the page is redirected back to the default Stand view in every case. We have a ticket with MS; however they are dragging their feet and has been over 48 hrs since we submitted the ticket.     - broken links and themes not applied Hello, I have WSS 2007 installed and something went wrong with .Net framework and IIS, so I repaired .Net 2.0 and the IIS is back to normal and the websites are opening. However, the style sheets are not being applied successfully and some links in the sharepoint appear to be broken. For example if I open the main site collection, as http://<server name>/sites/<mysitecollection > it does not open unless i specifically put http://<server name>/sites/<mysitecollection>/Pages/category.aspx . Similarly if I change the Theme of one of the sites, it doesn not take effect and remains on the default scheme.     - Unable to complete Sharepoint Configuration Wizard 3.0 Please help. I am very server challenged but have been assigned to the task of finding out why the configuration wizard for sharepoint is failing. This is a development server running MS Window server 2003 R2 SE SP1, .NET 3.0 framework is installed.     - Infopath Task Form with WebService could not load file or assembly error I have an Infopath form that I'm using for the task form for a custom workflow. The form calls a webservice to get a list of entries to populate a drop down list. The form is configured for full trust. In preview mode the web service executes and the drop down list is populated. When I publish the form to the workflow and then deploy the workflow feature the form does not work. It fails to load with "The form has been closed" message. In the error detail description it says the following: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Template\Features\AcrWorkflow4\Form\AcrTaskB2.dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. there is also the stack trace if anyone is interested in that. This happens if I use the managed connections to create the connection to the web service or if I add a web service reference in the code behind and try to execute it there.     - Uploading Pages to Publishing Site Pages Library Does any know how to upload documents to publishing sites and then change the page layout of the page Here is what I did: From Publishing Site Link -> Select Actions -> All Site Content When I select the page that was uploaded into the page library, I only see the content of my page. I do not get any of the publishing toolbars, etc. Also, I noticed that the PageLayout field for the uploaded page was blank.     - How to ENABLE editing sites with SharePoint Designer HI, when i try edit my web part in SharePoint designer I receive a error: “Web Site Editing is Disabled. This web site has been configured to disallow editing with SharePoint Designer. Contact your web site administrator for more information.” I never disable this.     - MOSS dynamic list I'm part of a team that is implementing MOSS for a large organization. We are planning a site collection that would house a large number of sub sites. It would be nice to have a list that dynamically shows all of the sub sites - I know a table of contents web part gives me this information, but I also want to include some metadata (name of subsite, description of subsite, and category of subsite) in my list which the TOC WP wont do.     - Got form Data... Now what? I have an infopath form submitted to a form library that my users have been submitting data to. This is working out just fine. My problem is that I need to view the submitted data is a more readable format such as PDF or some other format. In addition to this I need to create this type of format for archival purposes.     - How to Hide links from some users Hi I've added the link web part to my site. I'm adding links to other sharepoint sites in this link webpart. one link is intended for students and the other links is for staff. I don't want students to see the link which is for staff, and it is fine for staff to see the two links. so, students should see (student link) only staff should be able to see (student link and staff link) I'm not sure if the target audience will help to solve this but what i did is: for the link settings I checked the target audience I edited the staff link and selected the AD staff group. I now know that it is best to use the NetBIOS name. I've changed all of my application pools in IIS and have rebooted the server but I'm still getting this error and I can't figure out where I need to go to change the username.     - Problem with list templates and features Hi I'm creating a custom list template as a feature. The problem is that SharePoint can't seem to find my schema.xml for the list. In all examples I have found, the schema.xml file is always placed in a folder directly below the feature folder, with a name identical to the name of the list (as specified in the ListTemplate element). That won't work for me, however. The schema.xml for my list can be found at [featurename]\ListTemplates\[listname]\schema.xml. I have several list templates in my feature and want to organize them in a ListTemplate folder in my feature directory. But that means that SharePoint can't find the files, it seems. Everything works if I place the folder containing my list template schema.xml directly in my feature folder, however. Is it possible to solve this problem The SDK mentions a Path attribute in the ListTemplate element which can be used to specify an alternative path to the schema.xml, but doesn't really mention what the path should look like...     - ULS Exceptions HI We're using MOSS for a public website baased in a two-server farm (DB and MOSS) and we are continually seeing errors raised relating to the Unified Logging Service. Each time these errors occur, the App Pool re-cycles and we loose the site for a short period of time. The errors are occuring fairly regularly, roughly once or twice an hour. Exceptions are as follows: EventType ulsexception12, P1 w3wp.exe, P2 6.0.3790.1830, P3 42435be1, P4 mscorlib, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4333ab80, P7 19501, P8 6, P9 cryptographicexception, P10 8yr8. Looking in the trace for this one we get many "System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Keyset does not exist" messages. Another exception we seem to be getting, although less often, is: A runtime exception was detected. Details follow. Message: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.     - Adding Portal Site Navigation to MySite Although the MySites are really a separate site collection (or web application), from a user experience perspective, many clients want a seemless experience between a portal and the My Site. We need to be able to provide the same navigation (i.e top flydown menu navigation) for My Sites as we have in a portal in another site collection (or web application). I have seen a few posts on this, referencing using the PortalSiteMapDataSource, however, the one post that seemed to spell out how to do this did not work as shown. Also, from other posts, it appears that the PSMD only operates in the context it is within. In other words, I cannot point it to another site. Basically, we want a seemless user experience between a portal site and my Site. Now, somone may say "What if you have more than one Portal... which navigation would you use on My Site ". For most companies a single portal is all they have.... at least that is our experience... Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.     - Recommended way to pass identity to Excel Services hello, I am wondering what is the best approach here. I have a web application that will authenticate with Excel Svcs. I want a service account to be used by the application to access Excel Svcs. In my application, the user will be authenticated using a custom HTTPHandler that the whole company uses and isn't modifiable. So in the application the user will be authenticated as domain\Joe. I don't want domain\joe to be a member of the service account group (if the service account is a group account which i don't want to have either). I will be setting domain\joe up in sharepoint with read-only access or no access at all. This will allow the service account to have higher privileges than domain\joe or allow domain\joe to not have any privileges in sharepoint. Does the service account need more privileges than read only in regards to working with a workbook what is the best way to handle this authentication thanks! hi everyone,

is there a web part that will work in the following way:

we want to place a "hidden" webpart on the home page of our site that will only display content if a certain list is populated. We want it to point to a sharepoint list and when a user inputs an important message the webpart will appear on the home page with the content of the message. such as

"Alert

- timecards due today

- Important update to harrassment policy now available

- etc...."

There is no out of the box webpart as such. But ofcourse you can build a custom one using development.
