I just downloaded XNA Game Studio Express and have created and built a SpaceWar project on my machine, running Windows XP. When I run the project the Splash screen comes up, but when I attempt to start a game version by pressing A or B, nothing happens. When I press the Shift key, the program stops. If I can't get SpaceWar working, I can't learn about the XNA environment. Any suggestions Thanks.

You may find that the spacewar game is using the xbox 360 controls and the pc keyboard isn't mapped to what is shown on-screen. I believe the pc keyboard key for A is V and B is G (maybe the otherway round).

I had the same problem on the first try. So i viewed the spacewar game source code for the game controls and it does say that the game is designed using the xbox 360 controller.

There was a help file that showed on-screen the first time you create spacewars and I think you should've read that before diving in the deep end... like me

Jamie, thanks for your reply. Looks like G does give me the retro; no keys will give me the Evolved. I did read the startup documentation, but there was no mention of the keys for the SplashLogo. Looking in the source code, the proper keys are supposed to be mapped.....maybe i'm not getting the mappings though. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried pressing V on keyboard for the evolved game.

The V key on the keyboard is mapped to the A button on the xbox 360 controller.

I f you look in your solutions explorer, find a file called "settings.cs" and open that. Once open, find the keyboard setting code and expand that, from there you can examine what the keys are and maybe remap those keys to your preference.

Hope that helps you.
