Ok... Why the heck is it that everytime a run a sample it crashes. I'm new to c# but not to programming; therefore i'm not stupid but i'm not brilliant. To learn the ever-so-complicated language of c# i've looked at varios demos and stuff- but ever single one i try doesnt work. Is this maybe a corrupted version of c#, my gfx card or what! I copy and pasted the final code from the video demos, then commented out the sound stuff and swapped their model with my own... AND WHAM! nothing... it said something about a graphics initializing thing not being there or something... frustrating but w/e. OK so i create a brand new space wars starter kit and hit run to see what it's like... it doesnt work either!!! JUST CREATED!!! it stops building at this line:
drawDepthBuffer = new DepthStencilBuffer(graphics.GraphicsDevice,
FixedDrawingWidth, FixedDrawingHeight,
pp.AutoDepthStencilFormat,
pp.MultiSampleType, pp.MultiSampleQuality);

so i am STUMPED, I have no idea what is wrong, and the little marblets game or whatever it was wouldn't work either- heck the tanks game for beginners on coding for fun wont work either. Would someone please give me a clue as to whats wrong.

Thanks in advance,
Mr. Mouse

p.s.
i've also tried non-Microsoft created demos.

EDIT: I forgot... for learning i've made console applications line programs, and they run fine! Is this related to my graphics card

Have you looked at the requirements for using XNA

Check the posts here. You wouldn't believe the number of people that try to run GSE with a DX 7 or 8 card.

Which means little. What's the card in it

Well... graphics cards dont mean much to me- but its shared video memory (128mb) and its a SiS chipset or w/e, but it runs dx 9 with my games... is that different maybe im just stupid after all

EDIT:
I opened my display properties and it said it was a SiS m760gx- and i googled that and got this: http://www.sis.com/products/sism760gx.htm anyway it says it supports DX 8.1 or something- so im pretty sure its not specifically that.

"Microsoft DirectX 8.1 H/W and Microsoft DirectX 9.0 S/W compliant."

S/W = software AFAIK, which probably means it doesn't support Shader Model 1.1

Most on-board graphics chipsets that are not brand new probably won't meet the XNA requirements.

"The Integrated Mirage 2 graphic engine integrates a high performance/high quality 256 bit 3D pipelined graphics engine comprising a programmable 512KB to 4MB Command Queue sustaining zero-wait 3D-command acceptance, a 32-bit floating point Setup Engine specially designed to fit the entire Microsoft Direct3D API data formats, a built-in Texture Cache significantly improving texture mapping performance, and a programmable Rendering Engine compliant to Direct3D 8.1 Pixel Shader ver. 1.3."

Wouldn't that be the shader model Sorry if i'm a pain- but this is crazy!

No. That's the Pixel Shader version. Shader Model 1.1 includes both pixel and vertex shaders. Also, the XNA requirements are Shader Model 1.1 and a DX9 compliant card. From the FAQ:

"Also, you need a Direct3D 9.0 video card capable of supporting at least Shader Model 1.1."

Thank you... i think *CRIES LIKE CRAZY* So im gunna have to buy a whole stinking nother computer to program in 3d! WHAT THE HECK... GOSH... EVILE... thanks... i think... MY LIFE IS OVER! any suggestions besides a new computer or another language that would be good... UGH. but thanks anyway.

EDIT:
i was thiniking about a new computer anyway... would this gfx card work:

http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx l1=2&l2=8&l3=241&model=812&modelmenu=1

it said it used shader model 3 i think- but i thought i'd check with someone who knew.
