Hey , I just started using XNA Game Studio Express . When I load the Spacewar Starter Kit and press start to test the game there is only Xbox 360 functions , Is there any way I can play this using my PC keyboard or send this to my Xbox 360 .

The first line of the gamepad.helper file (I am at work and don't remember the exact name) is #define USE_KEYBOARD or something like that. Uncomment and it will kind of work.

Also, check out this tutorial on XNASpot:

Here is a tutorial on it.

I also started a FAQ you can check back on too for other issues.

To play using your PC, hit Home. Then again for single player mode. See the Spacewar Readme for key assignments.

If you think you might be purchasing an Xbox 360 in the future...or not, you might consider purchasing a controller.  The wired version or a wireless with the charge cord will both work on the PC; the controller plug is USB and will plug right into your computer for use with XNA games!  I think the wired version is around $30 while the wireless with the charge cord will be around $60 for everything.  I originally bought a wired version, but I will want wireless for when I do get a 360.  So, I'm going to exchange and shell out the extra for the wireless now.  Good luck!

*EDIT:  The 360 Wireless controller WILL NOT WORK as pointed out below...my mistake!

Have you actually tried using the wireless one on your PC 'Cause as far as I know it will not work.

Microsoft recently released an adapter so that wireless controllers can be used on a PC.

I have not, but I was sure going to try with the USB cable/charge attachment.

Hi,

It has been pointed out many times that you cannot use the wireless controller on a PC though the charge lead. The only option for using the wireless controller with the PC is to wait until Microsoft release the wireless gaming receiver for the PC which I believe will be Feb 2007.

Thanks, so let me correct my first statement  ...the 360 controller (wired version) works great plugged into the PC.

I just downloaded and installed the most recent version of XNA, and I didn't find the #define USE_KEYBOARD in the file that it should be in

The most recent version of the SpaceWars starter kit comes setup and ready for the keyboard right out of the box so that is old information that no longer applies.
