    - Please Help Firstly you want see if the device is OK. Comment out all the stuff in between BeginScene() and EndScene(), so you’re left with begin, end and present. If that works then uncomment VertexFormat and PrawUserPrimitive() and give that a try. Then uncomment SetStreamSource(), which is the most likely culprit since its for vertex buffers. If you want to go down the managed DirectX road then switch to C#, it’s much nicer to use plus you have all the XNA stuff to play with. Otherwise use unmanaged DX, you can actually mix unmanaged C++ with managed C++.     - DirectX8 and Vista Compatibility I have read on this forum and elsewhere that Vista supports earlier versions of DirectX through the use of DirectX9. Yet, I have a DirectX8 application that works perfectly well on XP but fails on Vista. Specifically: set oDX = new DirectX8 returns Error 429 ActiveX failed to create component. The reason this happens is because dx8vb.dll is missing on Vista RTM. When I copy this file onto my system and register it, my application works. So my questions: 1. Is dx8vb.dll missing by design, or will it be added in later Vista DX distributions 2. I need to fix my application for Vista so is it safe to redistribute just this dll (I tried running the DX8.1 runtime distribution on Vista to reinstate this file but without success. The installation appears to perform a version check and then report success without actually doing anything.) The DXUt are just a set of classes that compile into your application... there is no need to install it on the client as your application includes it, but If you are using the GUI Controls inside you will need to make sure that you package up the .fx and texture files that the Framework needs, as well as changing the paths inside your program.     - Ray intersection with an octtree scene manager? IMHO, I'd mainly use an octree system (or maybe a BSP one, portals, etc.) to assess what has to be displayed. So I'd leave raycasts processing as part of another component (like a physics handler). That way, you keep a clean implementation. Still, you could set your octree system to serve your raycast (or physics) system, but keeping both as different components.     - What components really make up DX 10 ? As there is no official DX10 (only D3D10 as you already mentioned), I guess you can just use all of the other DX9 components including XInput and DirectInput as you see fit. XInput is a hell of a lot easier than DirectInput though, so I hope we'll see other gamepads converging to this new standard as well. But DirectInput is just much more flexible and allows for devices wildly dissimilar from a MS gamepad, so I don't think that's gonna be deprecated any time soon.     - Xbox 360 Guides in XNA I agree with all of these - if there are feedback items for them, link them here so we can vote! The virtual keyboard and guide awareness are important, and having a MessageBox-like helper for showing guide messages would also be nice. Achievements and presence seem like things reserved for the pro product, and icons may be difficult (seeing as the Xbox Live service contains copies of all the icons). Note that it may be possible that Game.IsActive is false when the guide is up - any comments from MSFT Hopefully these things will be in the final (we'll know in 5 days!) or come in the next release - they seem like fairly core elements!     - Recommendations for terrainmesh collision and physics As far as I know you can't do collisions inside shaders... you would do a normal collision test with a model using either the average y of the surrounding vertices, or the return value of a ray cast in the -y direction against your mesh.     - Processing Keyframe Animation Data The matrices in the keyframes are in the same coordinate system as the Transform property on the NodeContent that is being animated, ie. they are relative to the parent node. They can just be copied over the Transform value to update the node to the correct position for the current animation time. The animation channels exist because for boned skeletal animation, all the animation keyframes will be stored together attached to the root node of the skeleton, rather than scattered around each individual bone node. The root bone will have a channel per bone in the skeleton, with the channel key indicating which bone that channel applies to. I used the Torque -X ver of Tank Buster Starter Kit to build From.

So ... Using Torque -X seems to be working OK.

I hope to have some more Samples / Demos Out Soon.
