Hi there,

Quick question about the 360 controller. Are there drivers that I need to install When I plug it into my machine it does not find drivers. Or can I not use it on my PC

Thanks!

yes a driver is needed, I got mine with the wired controller, Here is a link to the xinput driver on MS Downloads. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx familyid=0E989B12-576B-42F2-B7C1-2A17CE25188B&displaylang=en

I downloaded the Xbox360.exe file and tried doing what it said, but it will not recognize my controller. I have the wireless with the passthough. Do I need to get a pure wired one or something

I also have a wireless controller with the passthrough plugged in and the driver doesn't work for me either. I expect the wireless controller's only function when plugged into a PC's USB port is to charge the battery, but I'd like to know if anyone has gotten a wireless controller working on their PC.

the usb connector for the wireless pad is purely for battery charging, it always functions wirelessly. microsoft have announced the release of a pc adapter to allow the detection and use of 360 wireless peripherals, i think i read it was coming out october some time.

I have the wired XBOX 360 controller for the PC/XBOX360, it comes with a driver CD but I didnt need to use it. I just plugged it in , and everything worked - right down to the rumble and the 360 green glow (indicating which controller you are using). Only tested with the included sample game, SpaceWars.

I didn't get a CD with my wired controller (came with Xbox), but I just plugged it in, and Windows detected it and installed the drivers (might've connected to Windows Update for that). I didn't download or install anything, it was seamless :-)

i am replying very late, but when i clicked this link and tried to go through the install process, it just wouldn't. when i get the message that says "do you want to run this software (name: xbox-360-cc-x86-enu.exe), i click the run button and it malfunctions, saying "setup error installation did not complete". any idea what's wrong

Although the adapter is solely for battery charging, the PC reads it as a USB device. Wouldn't there be a way to create drivers to make this work

Also, I am having the issue of "Installation Did Not Complete" but why (This is with the "Microsoft Common Controller 32-Bit" installation. 64-bit gives me "update.exe is not a valid windows program")

Regards,
Dennis

It reads it as a USB device, but you cannot make a driver. The control simply does not send any data down it.

And what isn't installing properly The driver for the wired or wireless controller

The Xbox 360 Wireless PC Adapter has been released, it's $20 and allows wireless 360 controllers to connect to your PC. That's the easiest (and only ) way to connect a wireless 360 controller to your computer.

I got mine on amazon.com and it works great!

Hi there, I also recieved the "Installation Did Not Complete" message with the 32-bit install.
(Didn't try the 64-bit release)

However I have the following work around:
  • Get a program such as WinRAR,
  • Open the "Microsoft Common Controller 32bit.exe" installer with it,
  • Manually extract all the contents,
  • Enter the folder called 'update',
  • Right click on 'update.inf' and choose 'install'.

Enjoy Smile

For me, add to this: Open device manager, choose "have disk" and select the xnacc.inf file from the extracted directory and it worked, just installing inf alone does not.
