We're putting the final touches on our first release of XNA Game Studio Express and our launch on December 11th is less than three weeks away! Many of the team¡¯s members have started to think about features that could be implemented in versions of XNA Game Studio Express down the road. While the team has ideas about things we¡¯d like to do, we rely on you to tell us about the things you¡¯re interested in or that you¡¯d like us to change in future releases of the Product. The best way to share this information with us is by using Microsoft Connect. If you¡¯re unfamiliar with Microsoft Connect, please visit this previous post on our blog, for step by step instructions on how to get started.

We¡¯ve set aside a site on Connect where you can file issues or suggest features for the next version of XNA Game Studio Express. If a feature has already been suggested, you can show your support for that feature by voting for it. We use those votes to help evaluate whether to implement the feature. It¡¯s always better to vote for a feature rather than suggest it twice. So if you have some ideas to make XNA Game Studio Express even better, head on over to Microsoft Connect and add, or vote for, your favorite feature suggestions today!

Thanks!
Michael

I just want to be able to write audio bytes to some buffer in the AudioEngine.

Hi.

Please make Xbox 360 Live! available from XNA. Have network support for games is great feature.

Thanks

Would it be possible to have the XNA doc files separately without installing the whole package. I'd like to read them at the office but not install C# express etc because I don't want my boss to ask me why I have all this XNA stuff on my work computer ;) (even if I work as a game coder).

thanks.

All the files are on the MSDN site.

I have v 1.0, for 1.1

BoundingBox.CreateMerged(BoundingBox, BoundingSphere)

I know this can be done by creating a BoundingBox from a BoundingSphere first then BoundingBox.CreateMerged(BoundingBox, BoundingBox) but it would save a step for the developer...

Add the property .BoundingBox to the ModelMesh class.

ModelMesh.BoundingBox Gets the BoundingBox that contains this mesh.

To be honest, it kind of beyond me why this hasn't been there from the beginning. There is at least a hand-full of situations I can think of on the spot, where having the Axis Aligned Bounding Box of a mesh is a necessity.

I'd like to see ADPCM compression support for managed XACT builds, or even better would be other types of audio compression beyond ADPCM which is quite lossy and doesn't deliver the compression ratio of more advanced techniques.

At the moment even basic music can hugely inflate the size of even a simple game, in addition to not being memory efficient (in the case of in memory playback) or storage bandwidth efficient (in the case of streaming wave banks).

Text support. That's the biggest feature I would like to see added. I know some of the XNA guys have already come up with a semi-supported solution. And I'm very grateful for that. But it would be great to see this sort of functionality added to the next version of the framework. Displaying text is a very basic feature for any graphical application.

Personally, I would also love to see a GUI system implemented. Moreover, I would love to see a GUI system based on 3D shapes drawing rather than 2D sprites. (since such a system would make the GUI more scalable) I don't expect such a system. What has been provided so far is more than generous. But GUI is an element found in even the most basic games. Including a GUI system that would benefit from the 3D support that XNA already provides would be fantastic.

If it's not already in there, I'd love to see helper classes/shaders for bump-mapping of some sort.

I 2nd the suggestion of east text rendering support. That would be a great addition.

It would be nice to see built-in pixel perfect collision detection(that runs at a good speed) for 2D objects. That would eliminate a lot of hassel for a lot of people, or even polygonal collision detection stuff.

can't forget about the 2d developers =D

Idea 1:

XACT only supports wav, aif and aiff files so far, Im surprised wma is not included.

the ideal would be ogg since its open source, free, etc

serious games cant size gigabytes of music.

I should like to see a feature that allows to start reference rastericer in all machines not only in machines that support pixel shader 1.1, actually this is only posible creating a all new implementation of a device manager and device service.

- Please add an overload to the color constructor with (int, int, int) and (int, int, int, int) so we do not always have to cast int to byte.

- Gametime should be a property of class Game so we do not have to pass it around through the whole code, cluttering it. And please remove gametime from the Draw method (it is ok in update method).

- Add BoundingBox property to ModelMesh! Additionally, also provide the BoundingBox and BoundingSphere properties on the Model class itself.

- Add static "Empty" property to BoundingXXX volume structs like it is in Rectangle(and similar in other classes) and so on.

- Remove stupid and superflous methods like
public void Intersects (ref BoundingBox box, out bool result)

which adds nothing compared to the also existing methods like:

public bool Intersects (BoundingBox box)

the same problem in the other bounding volume classes.
