I've downloaded the drivers for the XBox 360 controller from the MS hardware website, yet when I connect my wireless controller via the USB cable, the "Found New Hardware" wizard fails to recognize it (and continues to prompt for the drivers). What am I missing here Thanks, -dn

Re: XNA Game Studio Express XBox 360 Wireless Controller on a PC

i made this

The wireless controller charge cable is only that - a charge cable. The controller continues to communicate wirelessly with your console even when plugged in.

What you want is the Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows, available later this year...

Will the wired 360 controller work on a PC

Re: XNA Game Studio Express XBox 360 Wireless Controller on a PC

Dodger_

Yes it will and Microsoft is releasing a wireless 4 controller dongle for the PC this December for $20.

I got mine today :) (in stock at Future Shop)

Installed the Software (check) (XPPro 32bit)

plugged in wireless gaming receiver (check) (front USB - since the back is full lol), and it works fine.

You go thru the same connection procedure as for linking the wireless controller with the 360

There is even a little app the appears when you hit the big(X) on the controller, that shows battery indicator (you cant move it on the screen though, its locked in the lower middle of the screen - lol) but click big(X) again and it goes away.

my only wishlist item, is that you could turn the controller power off with a button, like you can on the 360

so what, I gotta unplug the batteries or let it time out and go to sleep

made a Windows version of the SpaceWar Starter kit, and presto, using the controller with the default controller button scheme.

neato. we'll see how this helps develop games.................um....

if we build games to take input from an xbox controller (aka gamepad), will that work for other gamepads (like logitech etc)

Coool. USPS is still transporting mine from Amazon... Hopefully it will be here by Friday. :)

Btw, was there any instructions on what to do if the PC and the Xbox are in the same room

Wohoo, got mine from Amazon today

Unfortunately, I lent my wireless controller (i bought it a while ago cause i wanted to test xna apps) to someone because I don't have a 360. Can't wait to steal it back

Mine is in the same room as my xbox as well
on the wireless receiver is a button, you press the button, then press and hold the little tiny connectin button on the xbox controller until the lights stop spining around
then its connected to your computer.
so you'll have to relink it to your xbox to use on the xbox
the set upstructions are actually very good, nice colour photos. easy to follow, and there is even a piece of paper over the usb end that says to install software first. :)

that's funny

I have 2 as well, but the only time the second gets used is when my brother comes to visit.
