Perhaps somebody with more experience could help me. I want to implement the skybox example from the DirectX SDK (Samples/C++/Direct3D/StateManager) and I've copied and renamed the following files (skybox01.x, skybox02.dds and skybox03.fx) to my project folder and have added them to the content pipeline.

But I don't get it managed to load the skybox with her texture and set the camera to the center of the box, I think because I don't know how to handle the effects of the *.fx file and how to transform the box correct. (I'm new to XNA and I only have tried out the simple 3D examples with BasicEffects from the help files so far.)

So if somebody has the time to show me how to handle these files correctly, I would be very glad.

(You can find the files here if you want : http://www.mr-moto.net/skybox01.x , http://www.mr-moto.net/skybox02.dds and http://www.mr-moto.net/skybox02.fx )

You can also mail me the solution or helpful tips to code51_go@hotmail.com

Sincerely,

gonzo883.

Here is a small article/tutorial on a sjybox in XNA that should get you started.

Thank you both for the helpful links, this will get me closer to implement a skybox at all.

But can anyone tell me also how to implement the *.x / *.fx files with the *.dds cubemap from my example files, I couldn't find an example about that.

Sincerely,gonzo883.

well u have to make a shader that uses cubemap and then u tell the x file to be loaded with that shader and set parameter the cubemap texture.

Thx, but I couldn't handle the effects of the *.fx file, because I only know the examples which use 'BasicEffect', and thats because I'm searching an example or an explanation how to cover this. If someone who's closer to this please could take a look at the files from the SDK und could explain it to me dummie step for step I would be very glad.

will give u a brief explanation because i found example online but could not understand the render part when u render with basic effect u type dramesh or something with custom shaders u have to pass ur whole mesh to and vertex buffer so u have to declare those and ur draw code will look diferent its going to be a litle more complicated than with basic effect
http://www.ziggyware.com/readarticle.php article_id=46 in this site there its a perfect tutorial but notice this device.DrawUserPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleStrip, 2, diceVerts); u are not going to render with that line u have to make and vertex buffer and store ur model vertex in there hope that helps
