Eragon.

Hi,

Obviously, I've downloaded XNA Game Studio Express. I attempted to install it, but was having difficulty, as it said that I need Microsoft Visual C# 2005 Express Edition. I have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition, so is there any way I could get XNA without having to install C# Express

Thanks,

Eragon.

You can access all of the XNA Framework from Visual Studio 2005 Standard, but you won't have access to the Content Pipeline or the project templates. There is a CodePlex project that gives you an alternative to the built in Content Pipeline to build your content here:

http://www.codeplex.com/xnadevru/Wiki/View.aspx title=XNA%20Content%20Builder%20%28XCB%29&referringTitle=Home

but overall at this point most people feel like it's giving up too much and they stick with C# Express.

No, you have to install C# Express in order to install GSE and the XNA Framework. You can uninstall it afterwards and use the Framework in VS, but you lose some of the benefits of working in C# Express. You can run VS and C# Express side-by-side without a problem so I'd recommend just using C# Express.

edit: Hmmm, forum problems Replies didn't show when I replied.

You can build applications without Visual C# Express, but you won't have access to the content pipeline, templates, or the ability to deploy to the Xbox 360.

Visual C# Express runs side by side with other Visual Studio SKUs with absolutely no interference.

Finally, if you do a search, you will discover that this topic has been discussed many times before. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. And Here. (I'd link to more, but I have other things to do. I respectfully request you do a search in the future before posting )

If you want MS to support XGSE in other version of VS2005, cast your vote at:

Simple answer no. You will need C# Express installed prior to installing GSE. Do a search on the forums for posts related to this.
